yep,
Subject: Coaching Question with injury and ATP (Cycling focused)

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I recently had an injury (Patella Tendonitis) and took about two weeks off the bike completely.  At the time of the injury I just started the Base Phase II session.

I am taking two additional weeks to get back on the bike and make progress slowly.  Make sure the injury doesn't flare up at all.

So should I start back up with the Base Phase II session where I left off?  Go back a few weeks into Base Phase I?  Continue you on with the program even though I'm not near the fitness level I was before the injury.

FYI, I'm following Friels ATP program with the breakout of the weeks but utilizing the TrainerRoad.com training workouts with the load and intensity.

Quick Answer: Start from your race and work backwards. Remove the first weeks of intensity b/c of the injury and see if there's room to go back to Phase I. You're answer will probably reveal itself pretty quick.

x2.  Building a schedule that targets an event should always done by working backwards.

You can also adjust the length of the other periods to hit the race date.

Here's a link to Friel's blog that you may find useful for adjusting the plan:  http://www.joefrielsblog.com/2010/04/kiss-periodization.html

Base 2 has very little intensity. I would start right back there, and keep it in the lower parts of the zone targets the first week or two. Another option would be to start with 3 weeks of Base1, and cut Base 2 to 3 weeks also (the senior plan). If you're battling tendonitis, this might be the way to go anyway. Do 3-week cycles like Friel suggests for 40+ athletes to give your knee some extra time.

Not the senior or 40+ at all.  Still under 30   Thanks for your input guys.  I'm going to break it down from Base II and then jump back into it.
