I was wondering how long you run without some kind of a water stop?

With cooler winter temps. I have been running up to 12-14 miles without anything, but as I am increasing my long run distance I am wondering when I will need to add something.

Gosh...I'd die before I made it 12 miles without water! I have a 4 mile cutoff for running waterless, and I'm usually pretty miserable by the time that's over with.

Eh I've gone about 20. If I'm well hydrated and it's winter I'm alright.

It really depends on how much you're sweating.  If you dress too warmly in the winter, you can still sweat away a lot of water.  If you're sweating at all, don't go more than an hour.  I keep water inside my door for long runs in the winter because water bottles freeze quite quickly when it's really cold.  I do shorter loops in the proximity of the house and stop in for a quick slug of water at each loop.

My threshold is my 11.5 mile run.  I'm good w/o on my 9.5 miler, but I tend to bonk on the 11.5 miler.  time difference for me is roughly 1:20 for the 9.5 and 1:36 for the 11.5 miler.  anything over the 11 miler, I carry varying amounts in a 70 oz. cammelback, + gels.  first gel at 1:00, then another every 4 miles or so.

Pretty much the same here. Will have small bottle for 2 hour plus if on tredy but otherwise nothing unless very hot/humid.

It was interesting

I'm a water weenie.

Never go without it.

My CamelBak hand bottle carrier is my buddy on my runs.  5k or 11 miles, I never leave without my bottle.

I do notice that over time I empty it less, but I'm still not leaving it behind. Maybe later.

Here in the tropics, 45-50 minutes max, maybe one hour in "winter" (aka January).  But if it's brick, I'll even take water for a 30-minute run! In the U.S. in winter, about 10-11 miles/ 80-90 minutes Over that I find the run goes better if I take some water, or stop somewhere for a drink. You're still sweating and can still get dehydrated. Of course, on many winter days in Oregon, I could just open my mouth and tilt my head up, and that would probably work.

I think I might be an oddity and maybe it has something to do with conditioning and running in hot humid weather for most of the 32 years I have been running, but I can easily go 13 miles without water, even when in the 80's and high humidity. I do sweat a lot too. However, once it gets above the 80's, then I would need a little water for that distance.

In the winter? 13 miles. Any longer than that and I need food and I drink water with food. Although that distance has been getting longer....

Summer? I dunno...over an hour? Don't really pay attention...

I was wondering how long you run without some kind of a water stop?

With cooler winter temps. I have been running up to 12-14 miles without anything, but as I am increasing my long run distance I am wondering when I will need to add something.

I once read (I think it was in Runner's World but I"m not sure) that an athlete will run out of salts long before he/she runs out of body water.  That said, doesn't mean you won't be thirsty, and it doesn't mean its the right thing to do.  There are tons of articles and published opinions on when and how much to drink but that wasn't the question.  So my answer is - I barely need water for an HM in the winter (30's F), but my times go down unless I get at least a couple of "gulps" in around mile 7 and 10.  In the summer (80's F), I need water starting at mile 4, and every two miles, in the amount of at least 2 "gulps".

During endurance exercise without drinking/eating, performance drops from dehydration before salt (electrolyte) depletion.

To OP's ?- About 45-60min, less during summer heat.

Last weekend, the tube on my Hydrapak froze (should have worn it under my jacket) and I wound up going 21 miles without feeling too thirsty.  Today I ran 13 without any water and the weather was in the 50's.  Suffered more today than I did last weekend.  I've got another 13 tomorrow and I'll definitely be bringing water this time.

I carry water (and gels) for anything over an hour). I used to go 16miles without water, but there is no training effect from dehydration, and I recover better if I'm drinking during runs. It also helps as race prep, since I'm going to be eating and drinking during the run of a 70.3/IM and want to be used to running with something in my stomach.

wozin8or---I live / train / race in Miami. I run then ride then swim, in that order.  I used to do my 13mi run without fluids til I realized how much that hurt my performance.  Now I wear a Fuel Belt and drink and gel every 30-45min.  Now I can run and ride til I run out of fuel.  :-)
