Hightstown Open Water Swims 2013

Frank, it usually starts later in the year and without much publicity so the turnout is not what I think it could be. The lake generally passes all tests (it has to before each swim) unless we have had very heavy thunderstorms, in which case the runoff from the nearby roads can cause it to fail. Of the lakes I swam in last summer in all my races, Peddie was one of the cleanest.

I too have done them in the past, being 5 minutes away, but they never really got going until July. Will be nice to have it sooner. BTW, is hightstown triathlon on twitter? I don't FB. Thanks.

We have approval by the town, now we will start doing the water tests soon in anticipation of a late April, early May start!!!!

Hi PattiI hope to do my first sprint this year at mercer park. Any thoughts on a good swim instructor and a beginners bike recommendation? Any help you can offer would be valued and appreciatd.

Hi All! We are shooting for the first open swim to be on Friday, April 26 at 5:30 pm in Peddie Lake. We will be set up behind the Tavern on the Lake. Follow Hightstown Triathlon on Facebook, or if you are not on Facebook I will try to keep this forum updated if we have cancellations!

If you are not a USAT member you will need to purchase insurance for the day as well as pay the $5.00 swim fee which helps to pay our lifeguards.

As for beginner swimmers, I am not aware of instructors but if you call Beth Bright at the Peddie Aquatics she may be able to point you in the right direction.

Keeping fingers crossed that warm weather is coming!!!

Tonight at 5:30 p.m. will be our first open waters swim in Peddie Lake in Hightstown! Water temp (at least near the surface) was 63 degrees last night at 5:30 so maybe it can warm up even more this afternoon if the sun is strong!

Sorry, didn't see any goggles. Nice meeting you all. Thanks for setting up this swim. I can use all the practice I can get. I am going to try and make the 17th swim. Joe

Bob, I have your blue speedo goggles! Will bring them to the next swim. It was great, the water was actually really nice! Definitely brought home the fact that I need to get in the pool and get serious too!

It was great to meet everyone and I will keep you posted on when we will do the next one. I know Tom is planning for the 17th but I want to see if maybe we can squeak one in on the 10th. I will let everyone know.

We are planning on swimming this Friday, May 17th. Just want to give everyone plenty of time to plan. I will update here on Friday once the lab results are back but I'm pretty sure we will be fine.

Just wanted to let everyone on the boards know that tonight's swim is cancelled. The levels were off by a hair but we will be back next week!!!
