Pretty disappointing. Learn from it.

Comments:

Terrible swim. Started to get stress after the turn around Barnacle Bill. Could not settle down. On the turn around the far buoy got caught and beaten up by the wave behind. Got quite distressed. Thought I had to be sensible about this and headed across to the closest surf ski. Ended up resting there for 5:20mins. apart from some navigation issues (kept wanting to go the way we normally train here) the rest of the swim was uneventful. Got into my (slow) groove.
What would you do differently?:

I think it's essential for me to have a warm up. That might help me get over this 200/250m panic episodes. I'm sure it relates to breathing.

good quick transition, nothing to do except put my shoes on.

Comments:

Good run. After such a bad swim I enjoyed the run. Clearly I was at the back of the field. I just lined up the runner in front, chased them down, lined up the next one, and had fun playing chasings.

Good finish.

What would you do differently?:

Still not sure how much I can attach the shorter runs.
Post race
Warm down:

Cooling down - very humid.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Very poor swim. Though I think it was a good call for my long term training to go to the paddle board and get myself under control. The rest of the swim was ok.

Have to warm up. Don't try to swim too fast at the start. Breath out, get breathing under control. Slow down my stroke.

Event comments:

Part of the Australia Day festivities.
