Subject: Which paces for custum Ironman plan
When building a custum Ironman plan I am asked to put in current race paces for this distance.  My paces from last years Lake Placid times are quite slow, and not what I had planned on. Should I have used these actual numbers or put in the numbers closer to what my paces in training generally are.  Or possibly split the difference between the race pace on a bad day and training pace on an average day..  Right now the training paces seem pretty slow, but they are keeping my heart rate in the right zones. At this point in the training maybe the HR should be the focus?   Thanks for any advice.

Put in your Ironman training paces as you train for the events separately for the longer 'endurance' sesssions.  You will want your 'endurance' Z2 paces.

NOTE, the pace is not directly used in the calculations.  It is only used to get the 'ballpark' distance/time that your plan is based on - it doesn't have to be perfect.  The actual workout pace zones are HR zone based.
