Comments:

I love this race and will be doing it again next year if my schedule allows for it. Today was not my best run by any means. I started off too fast, as usual, but found my tempo around mile 3. I was having a dandy old-time until mile 5. That’s when my right IT band decided it wasn’t in the mood to run today. I changed my stride and concentrated on running easy and with a shorter pace. I also slowed down on turns to minimize the stress on my tendon. I felt pretty decent until mile 12. That’s when I hit the wall. I simply didn’t have any juice left in my body. Running through pain sucked the energy right out of my body. I thought I would be able to push it home on the last half mile, especially since the race finished on the FSU track, but I did not have it in me. So, I was passed by about 50 runners who were trying to beat the 2:00:00 mark and I scampered across the finish line right around 2:00:35 (official results pending). I train doing negative splits, and this was anything but a negative split.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate the free pepperoni pizza that was offered at the race. Bad idea - gave me tummy troubles. I have learned my lesson.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Right IT band acted up.

Great Job!!!!  Unverified results have you at 2:00:03 so you can round to 2:00.  Wish I could have spent more time with you but really enjoyed the time that we had together.  I 'bout lost it when you oh-so-casually gave my hubby instructions on camera operation.  I looked for you in the first quarter mile and you had already jackrabbitted to the front of the pack.  Well done and I hope the tummy issues are over now.

Great job, Jen! How fun that you got to race with Pam and Karl. Sorry about your ITB and stomach issues. You were oh so close to meeting your goal of a HM below 2 hrs. This race should give you the confidence that, without a doubt, you can meet and exceed that goal. Good luck at your next HM on the 16th!

This was a great race with all the difficulties.  Learning to deal with issues during an event like this will really come in handy during a 70.3.  The long days rarely go exactly as planned, and you did a great job adjusting and working through it.  Congrats.

Thank you Brenda! It was pretty awesome to be out there with some folks that I knew. Yes, a sub 2:00:00 is definitely within my reaches now, that much I know.

Warren - Thanks. I was talking to someone this morning and I realized what a learning experience the HM was. I am glad to have experienced the GI issues as I have never had GI issues ever before. So often, I can push through 90 minutes - 2 hours without refueling or thinking about nutrition. This was definitely an eye opener.
