We had Justin Beiber at our Grey Cup half time show.............so I can't judge.

We did switch to the news about 3 minutes in.

Pretty sure this discussion happens every year.

If you don't like the genre or artist = it was a horrible show.
If you do = it was the best show evar.

AmIright?

I think you're right.  I knew the destiny's child girls right away and was generally singing along - their music (then Beyonce solo) is kind of a soundtrack to my 20's.

The dancing is pretty standard for her - i guess most people never watched the 'Baby Boy' or 'Dangerously in Love' videos ...

I did laugh about the wind machines though - very obvious but they looked great! And dancing in those heels! Props to them!

Not really, at least for me.  I love The Who, just saw them last week, thought the halftime show was terrible.  Love Petty, halftime show was a snooze.

I am not much of a Beyonce fan, only ever really knew one song, and thought the show was terrific.

Go figure

Then again, I don't like the Stones, didn't like that show, like Prince, and liked that show.

I would have to say that it was the worst camera angles ever. The camera just kept closing in on that "up the flippin nose" shot. CBS missed the dancers, choreographed routine, band, etc.

I have attended so many concerts, shows, events, and I ask why was the halftime so limited?? Didnt see any aerial acts, cable riding angles, trampoline acrobat entertainment, glow in the dark dancers and the list could go on and on as we are talking about a massive indoor stadium. And why couldnt we see floats or any type of mardi gras vibe??? The halftime show simply lacked the show.

Ugh, how bad was that show!!!!  Although, I do have to say that I can't say that I have ever liked halftime shows, so I'm probably biased.  I don't get all the switching around of songs and all that stuff.  FINISH THE DANG SONG BEFORE MOVING TO THE NEXT!!!!  Drives me batty.

If they had Justin Timberlake do a cameo for it though, I probably would have liked it.

I thought the halftime show was a bit on the slutty side.

So yeah, I liked it.

Exactly. You can please some of the people some of the time....

That said, it wasn't for me. Meh, at least the game got interesting after it was over.

^^^ This.

I don't get why the SB halftime has to be such a production (uhh maybe sponsors).

I would rather they had high school marching bands from the Super Bowl city play at halftime.  Better yet, you're in Louisianna, get Southern University to play!

Bleah!

She's hot, but the sound was horrible and she seemed to be in the wrong place on stage for most of the dramatic overhead shots.  Entirely forgettable.

I didn't watch one second of it.   But I have it recorded, so I may go back.  However, I'm not a fan of halftime shows at all.  Over produced shows with over promoted stars/divas.  Blech.

Honestly, I wish they would do something unique for a halftime show.  Not the the same scale, but like a Olympic opening or something?  Seeing some pop star doing a medley of their old tunes is just not my thing.

Now if they did a Pink Floyd reunion or U2 or something.

The same reason why we have to eat my mother-in-law's apple cake every thankgiving, even though it isn't very good: tradition.

ETA: Also, I think you can probably make the argument that since only about 40% of the people attending the game have any particular interest in the outcome, the big star-studded halftime show is a way of trying to give them their money's worth.

I agree.  Something more visual than big head shots of some pop star rehashing old stuff or worse yet, lip sincing.

I really don't know what you guys expect for a 15-20 minute half time show. I never watch them. My wife LOVES Beyonce so I had to watch. I thought she did great.

I would much rather watch a current star that can still sing than some recycled greatest hits show from somebody 40 years ago. Seriously... I love my classic rock, but they sound like crap now... and no, I do not thing an embombed 70 year old prancing around the stage in leather is a good show. Tom Petty is the only one that can pull that off because he always seemed "old" and so did his voice. The guy is timeless... like Johnny Cash.

They could just Lip Sync like Beyonce.

No way she dances and still sings recording-quality like that.  She's incredible.

Then let them lip sync to a 30 year old recording, I don't care. Because listing to washed up singers in no treat.

And... complain all you want about lip syncing... it's part of the deal and that is all there is to it. It is a show, it's entertainment. The only thing that matters is that she can actually lay the track down and has a GREAT voice. But sure... she could stand there all night and belt out a few good tracks. The classic rockers definitely can't say the same.

She is really hot, so my Man Card is still in my possession.

Plus we left the party at half time so I am the only one that knows how to run the DVR.

The only part I liked was when it ended.  If only the power outage could have come 30 minutes sooner...

This is the first half time show I can remember that I didn't consider "ok" or better.

The crowd I was with were not fans of the half time show either. My 4 year old daughter was one of them. She thought like you - icky. I wasn't even paying attention to what was on and heard her asking "what is that weird lady doing Mommy?".  Of course then I had to give a lecture about how it is not nice manners to say people are weird. Honestly, I only watched maybe 1 song before I was just bored and lost interest.

jmcconne - 2013-02-04 12:54 PM I was bored, and thought it was really odd they did a Destiny's Child reunion. I bet most guys didn't know the other girls weren't just other provocatively dressed dancers. I was waiting for someone interesting to jump in.  I think something like throwing in Linkin Park would be a good way to mix it up.  This just seemed like an odd girl power spectacle.

Now THAT I would love to see.  All the pretty girls are gyrating around to pre-recorded backing vocals and Linkin Park comes in and starts kicking a** and taking names.

Agree with this also!

If the look she was going for was street-walker, she nailed it.

I'll forgive her though...she's smokin' hot.   ...but the hotness alone didn't make me wish it would stop with every fake-out finish she had!  GEEZ!  Every time it looked like it was gonna end, BAM! more of the same stuff.

All that said, I ultimately have no problem with it because that's what the general public seems to want.

Sincerely, Old Fuddy-Duddy
