Subject: RE: No more Wrestling in the Olympics I have a colleague that was an alternate for the 1976 Olympics and coached wrestling at Harvard in the early 90s. I haven't spoke with him yet but I know that he has to be disappointed. It is hard to believe that the oldest Olympic sport is being discontinued while they are considering Golf, Wakeboarding?, and other sports. I guess that it is all about TV ratings, but then how many people watch the shooting events, Dressage (horse dancing) and some of the other niche events? IMO the inclusion of Pros in the Olympics has made basketball hard to watch. How good is it for the Olys when the USA Men's and Women's Pro teams win the Gold with a 30-40 point Margin of Victory. I forget who they beat but the Men's team beat one country by the score of something like 110-50 in the last Olympics. |
