Age Group Rank = 3/7
Pre-race routine:

ate a go bar, drank some sports drink, watched my mates start their half iron, faffed a lot and went to the toilet loads of times.
Event warmup:

quick swim just to get used to the water.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 200 meters
  • / 100 meters
Comments:

breast stroked a bit as started to feel a bit panicky at a few points plus i couldn't see much. the swim back was all freestyle and i think a passed a few people :)
What would you do differently?:

freestyle all of it.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

stupidly long transition from the swim tot he bike. walked half of it as felt knackered and then jogged the second bit as somebody i met before who was doign the same race told me to! felt pleased with the catual transition itself.
What would you do differently?:

be able to run all of it.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 11.5 kms
  • 0.00 km/hr
Comments:

good bike. had been uncertain as to whether to take my bike computer and watch with me, but glad i did. it meant i kept a good cadence up on the hills/undulations and was pleased with the time. i was aiming for just under half an hour and managed that, despite my bike computing then adding an extra 30seconds on in transition after i left it ;)

also wasn't sure abotu taking my camelbak with me for such a short ride but was very pleased i did.

really, really enjoyed the bike bit, pushed hard when i had to and passed a few peeps on mtb's and got smoked by lots of guys in my race and all the others doing much faster, much lomger, much harder races - god those carbon bikes with disc wheels do make a bloody noise!
What would you do differently?:

nowt :)
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

decent transition. think this took about a minute.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Run
  • 17m 14s
  • 2.5 kms
  • 06m 53s  min/km
Comments:

managed to run the whole way :) aim completed :)

only got passed by two people - not bad :)

sprinted at the end :)
What would you do differently?:

go a bit faster a bit sooner towards the end. not get passed byt he girl who ran faster than me but had to walk a bit - that irked me!
Post race
Warm down:

tried to find flaming buttock's wife and daughter, and randomly chatted to others from my race. then found them, then wandered for a bit, then did some marshalling.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not enough run training - have had a sore itb. not doing all freestyle in the swim.

Event comments:

this was my first ever tri and i have had the best day ever. only being passed by two people on the run was a bonus...i had images of EVERYBODY going past me!

am signing up for the sprint at nantwich as soon as i can, which is organised by the same people.and will return next year to do the sprint.

also, seeing my mates do so well was a real bonus; and marshalling and encouraging peeps who were in hot, tough conditions was fantastic - loads thanked me after and that felt great.

a fab day :)

tempted by Nantwich. Pool based (brine apparently). May train for it! ha ha Don't know where to print my times off though. Where did you get yours?
And by the way, your times were excellent!

Toska - 2006-07-04 12:49 PM tempted by Nantwich. Pool based (brine apparently). May train for it! ha ha Don't know where to print my times off though. Where did you get yours? And by the way, your times were excellent!

got the times off fun2tri.co.uk. i get paid friday so am signing up for the novice at trentham. trying to get my bike competitive and do a 5k run is going to be too much, so i'm going to stick to the novice. will probs do nantwich next june but the sprint one then...that gives me lots of time to try and get my running sorted (its gonna take ages - lol!).

the pool swim sounds tempting definitely and the bike is meant to be more hilly, so i'm going to pop down to nantwich this w/e to see what its like - will report back...ok just going to look at wiggle to price up a triple chainset (is that the right word???) - i may need it!

are you going to log your workouts so i can see what you're up to? and *blush* at saying my times were excellent - i am pleasantly suprised i did as well as that. you did amazingly also...well done.

Jackie, I tried looking on fun2tri site and can't get my times :-((
May start blogging my training, lol, such as it is.
I'm going cycling with an ex-pro elite tomorrow, should be fun. Lots of hills and sweat.
let you know how it goes, and any wisdom he has to impart (triple chain set is correct)
guess what? the lake was slightly warmer today ha ha

Tracy

ps just get a bit more endurance in the legs, speed ok
just realised I won my age group!

well done on winning your ag!

as for building endurance - you think running 3 times a week would be ok? i should i brave 4? i don't want to get myself an injury.

shall we do a deal? i'll do nantwich sprint if you do - that way it'll give me a running goal to work towards! *i'm scared*

Just worked out that I can't do Nantwich tri :-(( A little thing called work!

Three runs a week run sounds good. But seeing as you want to concentrate on improving perhaps 4 would be good and you have the ability. As for injuries, that is danger we all live with whether you run once a day or once a month. Just make sure you incorporate some quality stretches and some active recovery. Get a programme together from the site. Can always tweek.

Im still alive after my three hour ride with my friend. I thought he was trying to kill me on those hills! lessons,
-anticipate what you will need gear wise for the hill, and change it before your candence drops
-big hill, don't look at the top, just 20 yards ahead of you
-big hill, I found smallest cog on the triple chain set at front, and a cog on the back which allowed me to keep my legs turning at a high rate, comfortable and useful.
-get to ride with others if you can, really different to lone riding (motivating, social and informative, even if it is only gossip about the neighbours)
-even on a short ride CHECK TYRES and set up of bike before u set off
- and my conclusion is drafting is good!

Im such a newbie! I was under the misconception that you have to apply pressure on the pedals at all times and feel some resistance! doh
looking at other possible tris now,
may the godess of triathlons smile upon you again at Nantwich (so envious)
Tracy
