Total Time = 1h 56m 18s
Overall Rank = 260/889
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 34/57
Pre-race routine:

Checked out the course the day before in the car and looked like rolling hills out and back with a decent climb at the turn. I think this was deceptive in that a good portion is downhill on the way out and up on the way back.

Woke up at 5 had sweet potato and protein shake. Got to the race and parked at the rodeo grounds and rode the shuttle to the park. Easy, this was well run. Lined up with the 9 min group.
Event warmup:

No real warm up it was chilly but not too bad with shorts and a long sleeve.
Run
  • 1h 56m 18s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I beat my goal of a sub 2hr run. I made the turn in 56 and though I had a chance to break 1:55 but the uphill section between 7-10 proved to be too much. I went out strong but didn't realize with the rollers that the outbound portion is down hill as much as it is.

Overall nutrition was good but I started feeling a lot of tightness in my hip and am relating that to electrolytes. Hydration was good, nutrition was good with 5 GU's down and 1 right after the finish. Electrolytes will need to be worked on. I had nothing at the end and am happy with beating my goal time. Most of my long runs with the exception of my 10 miler were don at at least a minute per mile slower pace. I took a full 2 week taper and had no soreness when we started, no knee pain during or after and only muscle soreness which I can deal with.

This training laid down a great base for the upcoming tri season, although I am questioning my ability to run 13.1 after a 56 mile bike ride, guess we'll see.
What would you do differently?:

Work on electrolytes, more run fitness and speed work on short runs.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around played 18 holes in the afternoon, not well but I played!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Electrolytes, speed work

Event comments:

This is a well run event with lots of volunteers, and a cool venue.
