omg, part of that is actually quite funny.  dudes leaning on her car at a red light so they don't have to unclip.  i'm really laughing right now picturing that in my mind.  i also share the same sentiment that when cyclists are dressed to the T in their logos and stuff that they 'can' be more arrogant (but certainly not always.  this is just my opinion from my own experience).

I have been guilty of running a red light or two when no one is coming.  but i will only do that if no one else is at the light beside me waiting as well.  i probably shouldn't do it, but it kills my average pace when i'm done and enter it into my log.

Love people that spew opinion like it is fact and with the internet there is just that much more crap out there.   I follow the rules of the road and have been honked at, thrown at me, yelled at and ran off the road over the last 10 years.  Such a sad state of life when 30 seconds of time to slow down is more important than life

perhaps she has been exposed to poor cycling etiquette one too many times ?

but still no excuse for her lame comments.

I do frequently wear logo'd bright colored jerseys, primarily to be seen, not to be arrogant by any stretch. I do what I need to do to avoid danger, and do my best to follow laws and not aggravate traffic...although not perfect by any means.

Drivers don't understand how crappy the shoulders are, even though the car would ride ok there...I most certainly would crash on the cracks, glass, rocks, nuts and other debris (just to give an example). so that it why I will drift into the "road", taking up some space that cars normally could/would. Yet I am ultra cautious and conservative on where I am at all times. I wear a helmet mirror (nerdy I know...)

What is a "Tour de France" bike helmet?

Shaped like a syringe?

In the immortal words of Bugs Bunny, "What a maroon."

totally agree and have had similar thoughts and issues on the road. I don't understand why people have to scare cyclists...honking, yelling out the window, throwing things...and passing with a vengeance.

Get a custom jersey.  On the back of the jersey, in very small letters near the neck line, have the words "I support".....below that, in very large, block letters, preferably yellow on a blue jersey, have the words "COUNTY POLICE"......if you like, put the actual name of the county you ride in.

Your problems are over.....you are about to see some of the most corteous drivers you have ever been on the road with.

I work on a busy street in Melbourne.  It has a dedicated green cycle lane.  I've been here two years and seen at least four cyclists knocked off their bikes outside my office - I've also been run down by one on the footpath!  hehe!

What I've noticed is courtesy is shown to people riding in their normal gear (especially girls in pretty dresses!), on a plain old heavy bike with a basket on the front.  As soon as they are lycra'd up especially in RED they get shouted at and treated like garbage.

I dunno why probably some envy going on a bit like sports cars, you want to see them get caught at the lights, done for speeding etc.

So if we have a licence plate on our bikes it's gotta be carbon right?

Generally a Sheriff's department works for the county, and the police for the city.  Otherwise, carry on.

I'm sure she walked out of her office that day swinging her heavily logo'd Luis Vitton purse.

She is getting basted pretty good in the comments.

I have no idea how people ride in Georgia. I have been there quite a few times and it seems narrow, twisty roads with no shoulder and insane drivers are mandated by law.

Its easy to dismiss what she says, but lets try to understand that this does happen to motorists.  And for them, it is very frustrating.   The article was actually one of the better arguments I've read by a non-cyclist.

I've driven in Atlanta several times, and I'm pretty sure the slow traffic has nothing to do with bikes and everything g to do with urban sprawl. she does raise an interesting question about the traffic
though. I confess I often run red lights, mainly at intersections that I know have the ground sensors. I would need to wait until another car came by to trigger the sensor in order to cross on a green light. But I adhere to most other rules.

I did a google search on Melissa Carter.  She gets fewer hits than I.

She is a nobody blabbing about nothing.  Trying to shock and failing.

hatters gonna hate...

...on a side note, I promise that if I ever ride in Atlanta that I won't cut her off as she's speeding at 100mph to McDonald's so that she can weight the same as her car...

And when she goes in for her promotion, she can say "look at all the traffic my writing generates!"

1.  I seriously doubt that cyclists lean against cars so they don't have to unclip.  I think you could try that about, oh, once, before someone would make trouble for you.

2. How does she know the cyclist leaned because he didn't want to unclip?  I would bet money that I don't know a single non-cyclist who understands clipless pedals.  Heck I had ridden thousands of miles before I knew they were a thing.(thanks, BT!)
