I have a Nazi armband with a bullet hole and stained with blood.  My grandfather would never talk about his time in the war, so unfortunately I don't know the story that goes with it.

Yeah.  It's in a glass case in my sunroom and is probably worth a bit of coin.  But I never actually checked to see how much.  I'll try to remember to take a pic and post it here.

Not terribly unusual, but I have a picture of my great-great grandparents and their children. It was taken next to their wagon about 70 miles west of St. Louis around 1905. I'm not positive of the date, but basing it on the apparent age of my great grandmother, who was born in 1898. My great-great grandfather is sitting on a stool holding his fiddle on his knee, while my great-great grandmother is standing behind him with the 11 children gathered around. There's also a portrait of another great-great grandfather, who looks eerily like my dad.

I have a bed, circa 1850, which my grandfather was born in and my great-grandfather was born and died in.  (sounds a little creepy now that I think about it).

My grandmother's old mink stole which I now use for tying flies for fishing.

a bust of thomas jefferson.

to be fair, i married into it.  my husband went to mr. jefferson's university (UVA) and his dad bought it for him as a gift years ago.  when mr. meh moved in, we put the bust in a small upstairs window.  it's totally creepy, when you drive up our street you can see thom. jeff. staring at you, but when you pull in the driveway he disappears.

i love it.

all of you have some great unique and unusual items. I have several hand carved Mahogany statues of various african animals that my wifes grandfather and grandmother gave us from their time as missionariers in multiple areas of africa (two of them actually come from her great great great grandpa who was a missionary too and they have been handed down for generations within the family).

At first I thought this was WTC (World Triathlon Corp).

I do have this bike with funny handlebars, though.  Oh, and a wetsuit.

we have pet madagascar hissing cockroaches.

On a similar note we also grow Dubia Cockroaches and crickets for a coupel other pets.  the distinction is that the hissing cockroaches don't get eaten, while the others do.

I bought it at auction in the early 90's.  Its signed, has his prison number, and a note on a book plate for me.  I keep it on my desk to remind me that when ministering to people, focus on God's glory and not your own.

*Fully functional (I watched while it was sealed and waterproofed at the boat workshop, and they demonstrated to me that it floats) mini-boat that's a scaled-down version of what fishermen use in the Mekong Delta. I guess you could use it to send a life-jacketed two year old on a journey of the imagination in a pool, or tow a medium-sized dog to safety in a flood. It even has mini-oars. I initially used it as an "ark" on top of a cabinet to keep my stuffed (toy) gecko collection in, but after an incident last year when my cat knocked it over (he mauls stuffed geckoes as well as real ones) and nearly killed himself, it now serves as the "transition zone" where I keep running and bike shoes/equipment in the entry hall. (Yep, my decor is pretty unusual!)

*A Tibetan trader's trunk. It's metal painted a gold color with animal and flower motifs. Used by itinerant traders in nomad areas to bring their wares for sale. Got it in Xigaze at themarket..

*A USSR national team uniform warm-up suit. Traded with a Soviet athlete for it at World University Games in 1989.

*My psyche-out items: A US national team uniform (singlet, shorts, sweats, warmups). From the same meet (I ran the marathon). Looks pretty much identical to the 1988 Olympic uniforms. The elastic is shot on the shorts but I have occasionally worn the singlet or sweats for 4th of July events, most recently a 5K where I failed to break 20 minutes. Talk about overkill. Olympic Trials shoelaces from 1988. Last used in 1989; in my keepsake box.

I'm a bit of a pack rat.  Off the top of my head and in no particular order of importance:

  • Various old books, ticket stubs, etc.
  • A piece of live oak taken from the USS Constitution during one of her overhauls.
  • Some 1890's silver dollars passed on from my great grandmother.
  • My grandfather owned his own auto repair garage and I have a lot of his old tools.
  • An antique brass sextant.
  • Some antique blocks (pulleys) from a nineteenth century sailing ship.
  • Some instruments from a WWII F6F Hellcat Navy fighter.
  • My mother's high school yearbooks.  She went to high school in Fairmount, IN, with James Dean and he signed them all.
