Subject: Femoral anterior glide syndrome, anyone have this?

Hi, all.  I have been posting about my running issues that I have had over my 4 years of running.  The more research I do and the more specialists I see the closer I get to figuring out my problems.  Originally I thought I had pirformis issues and ITBS possibly conrtributing to repeated hip flexor strains.  Just figured out with my current PT the front of the hip pain I get is actually impingement within the hip joint not hip flexor strain.  My last PT diagnosed the anterior glide syndrome over a year ago but his treatment didn't help.  There is more info available on the internet now than there was a year ago about this syndrome.  I really think this is my problem and is worsened by doing hip flexor stretches.  My current PT didn't know what this was so I printed off some info for her.  Will see what she thinks next time I see her.  Anyway, I am starting the exercises at home that I found for this.  They involve improving glute strength/ activation.

Anyone else have this and been able to correct it?  This syndrome causes the femoral head to move too far forward in the hip joint causing pinching and pain.

I don't have that issue, but the solution doesn't strike me as out of the ordinary.

Lots of common issues such as ITB can be resolved by simply strengthening the glutes, lower back and the rest of the core.  This is the sort of thing that a solid, well designed strength training program can help greatly.  Hip abductor exercises in particular.

Thanks for the reply.  I am really hoping that targeting those glutes will help this as I can't ever build up any good run mileage before I am sidelined with hip pain.  My current plan is to work with my PT for a bit and then get good run analysis done.

Definitely build the glutes, but also ask the PT to set you up with a solid all-around strength training program for your core... basically, for anything that will augment the muscles used by SBR.

Pains/injuries occur where muscle weakness and imbalances are as they will cause the body to compensate in some way when when you try to recruit those muscle for use... strengthen as much as you can, and you'll be less prone to future injury.

I am not familiar with your specific condition, but I have been working on strengthening my hips. My pt recommended the Myrtl hip routine.

I do this 3 times a week. Again, I don't know if this will be painful, etc, for your condition, but worth checking out.
