Total Time = 14m 38s
Overall Rank = 1/2
Age Group = W2-6
Age Group Rank = 1/2
Pre-race routine:

got in my suit and managed to get swim cap on unassited. ate some animal crackers. bill helped fi into her swim diaper and suit, and mama helped her with her swim cap.
Event warmup:

fi and i played in the pool for a while.
Swim
  • 00m 31s
  • 5 yards
  • 10m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

ella did two laps doing the crab walk around the pool. fiona got in, did one lap, then was off like a shot out the other side of the pool.
Transition 1
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

you think its hard to get a wet body into dry clothes as an adult - try it when you're under 6! took a long time getting shoes on, and shorts, even with help. still, it was fun.
Bike
  • 03m
  • 0.08 miles
  • 1.50 mile/hr
Comments:

rode 33.5 miles on the trail-a-bike yesterday, but the .075 mile ride on my own bike really threw me for a loop. fi did okay on her trike, but needed help to keep from biking into the neighbors' nettle patch.
What would you do differently?:

ride my own bike more, and get a lighter bike, because mine weighs like five bazzilion pounds.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

second transition was much easier. fiona stripped back down to her bathing suit, so her transition took longer.
Run
  • 03m
  • 0.15 miles
  • 20m  min/mile
Comments:

i love to run. the course was so nice, i did it twice.
Post race
Warm down:

stuck around for the awards ceremony. got a great schwag bag with a lollipop ring (the kind that looks like a giant ruby!), and some stickers. i placed first overall, and fiona placed second. that was pretty cool.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of bike time, and not really knowing how to swim.

Event comments:

this was a great race. from the start of the race to the end of the awards ceremony, it took less than 15 minutes. will do this one again soon.

  • ..today i was picking up the last few things for the goodie bags i'm making for my mom, aunt, and cousins for when we do danskin this weekend. ella said she wasnted to do a race and get a goodie bag. i said we could do another run and she said 'NO, i want to do a TRIATHLON! TODAY!' yow! okay! we set up the race in the backyard and we all had a blast. ella was grinning the whole time ('cept on the bike - she's been on the trail-a-bike so much lately that she hasn't been riding her own bike as much). fiona...well, fiona was just VERY SERIOUS about the whole thing. she's 2 1/2, but she knew exactly what to do. she's only been to one of my races this year, but she remembered! amazing. anyway, we all had a grand time.

i especially love the one of the girls before the race starts (so serious!), fi leaping out of the pool, ella airborn on the run, and the girls with their awards. so cute.

Way to go girls!  Hardware on your first race - nice job.  I wonder if Fi has started a new trend - stripping back down to your bathing suit for the run.  I love the airborne picture too!

i don't know. it took her a while to get into them because she was wet...and then she needed almost as much help getting out of them!

Congratulations, Ella!  You're going to be doing half irons with your mom before you know it.
