volunteering

I got into tris from volunteering. The Y I worked at was asked to supply lifeguards for the Pittsburgh tri...I loved watching the race, and in our volunteer pack was a flyer for a sprint tri, and i thought, "hm, I can do this!". Yep, with 2 weeks training. But I still had a blast! and I volutneered for the race last year, again as a lifeguard (this time in a kayak)...and now this year, I'm finally running the darn thing! Weee!

I started out being a volunteer - road marshall, body marking - then did my "try-a-tri", then health issues prevented me from moving on to the sprint, so back to volunteering.  This year I started training again, more health issues, so I am now the "Volunteer Coordinator" for this year's race locally.  Rewarding, but at times frustrating.

I will be volunteering at Vineman, it's an IM distance here in California. They have me at the finish line, looking forward to it!
