Anyone know of any races/rides this weekend in the general Atlanta area? This is my first weekend in Atlanta since I "moved" here in Jan.

One the best and oldest road races is this weekend...Historic Brooks RR.  Jump in as Cat 5 or Masters and have fun...warning that the Master's group has some really strong guys and it will be a real hard race.

Here is the link to the Brooks Gran Prix.

Can you just show up and race cat 5 or do you need to register with a cycling group first?

If you want something a little more low key I read a couple of days ago on the Virginia Highlands Velo group that there is a no-drop ride leaving from the Decatur Courthouse this Saturday at 8:30am. They are going to ride the Tucker route. It is aimed at riders that would like to familiarize themselves with the route before spring/summer pace starts.

Two yahoo groups that are good to subscribe to for both organized and daily pickup rides around town are the Virginia Highlands Velo group and especially the Sunday Ride group.

thanks for the replies - I only have a tri bike so I dont think any road races are in the cards for me this weekend. Plus I have some old tires on that sucker( a nice smooth strip from the trainer ) probably should hit up a local bike store soon. I might find a 5k or something just to get out

If you have a mtn bike and are interested in an Off Road Duathlon, there is the Fort Yargo State Park Duathlon in Winder on Saturday the 9th.  3.8m / 10M / 2.1m put on by Dirty Spokes that will be sure to get your HR pumping.

I'm planning on doing this 5k in Roswell this weekend, and you are more than welcome to join me.  I have no idea about the quality of the race though.  I need a 5k to get ready for the Ga Marathon, and this one was the closest to the house.

Let me know if you are coming and we'll hook up.

I have found that there's more to multisport and triathlon than following the white line on the pavement !  So I am just adding a little bit of variation to the normal routine that we tend to see and talk about.

And yes, I am a convert, it is now all about the dirt ....

No white line....

Is this sort of like how some of the race directors don't put a black line in the lake for swimming?

interesting.

I am headed out on the Coffee Crawl.  It is a standard route that goes past about 10 independent coffee shops.  I am just riding solo but expect to see a lot of other riders doing the same thing on Saturday morning.  If you see a gray-haired dude on a Litespeed Tuscany, be sure to wave.  It could be me.
