I recently went on a trail run with a guy who loved his compression socks.  Said they have helped his legs recover much quicker.  Who uses them?  I was looking at getting some calf sleeves to wear under my pants at work after long runs in the morning.  Are they worth the $40?

A cheaper (less stylish) option are socks from the pharmacy at CVS or Walmart. Or, an ace bandage allows you to adjust the compression. But yes, I love my calf sleeves for recovery (CEP brand).

Yea this ^^^ I have a pair of CEP as well and use them for races and harder training days.  I would get a pair of the cheapos to wear for recovery and/or under pants.  Same benefits much less money. If your vain, like me, get a pair of CEP or 2XU or CWX or whatever to wear for races and such and a pair of cheapos for recovery so you don't wear out the good ones.

I wear 2XU compression sleeves as well as ZOOT.

I have ZOOT recovery compression socks that I wear after a hard workout.

Do they help?  I have no scientific knowledge of that, but I feel when I'm sore, they do help keep it together and speed up recovery a little.  They're not a panacea, but they help a little.  Maybe 5-10% in my opinion.

I bought a pair of CEP's last year for a HM.  I wore them once and haven't touched them since.  I find that I prefer to run without them, and that they are generally grossly overpriced.

What I DO like are the inexpensive, medical grade, generic black compression socks in your average sock aisle at K-Mart/Target/Whatever.  For $5 you get great compression in a sock that you can wear all day at work - during your normal recovery time.  I even sleep in them after long runs.

I don't wear them during workouts or races but for recovery they're great.  I started with a pair from DeSoto, but they are a little long and don't give quite enough compression, so I picked up a pair of CEP I really like.

I love my 2XU compression socks. Great to wear after a race or hard training run. But definitely helped to wear when I did my first 1/2 marathon.

I have used my CEP sleeves as a recovery solution and have used it for long runs, including IM Wisconsin. Highly recommended. Well worth the 20-30$.

I just got a pair of CEP socks last week because I read that compression helps shin splint recovery. I haven't worn them during a run, but I do throw them on afterwards. Thus far they do seem to be helping. Usually my right shin starts screaming within a quarter mile. I did four miles on Saturday with not a single sign of the splint. Could be a correlative effect of just getting used to the training volume, but if nothing else my mind seems to believe that they work.
