Subject: Can someone decipher this for me?

My swimming in the past has been just doing lap after lap endlessly and mindlessly.  I figure it's time I get more purposeful in my swim workouts.

So I come across something like this:

50', 2,000 total

WU: 400 easy

MS: 30x50 descending 1-3 by sets of 10

CD: 100 easy

50 send-off is Threshold Pace (TP) plus 5-10" (TP+5-10").  So if your TP is 1:30 per 100, your 50TP is :45. TP+5-10" = 50-55 send-off.

I think I can figure out most of it but what is "descending 1-3 by sets of 10?"

HI KEYE

It means you do them as 3 sets of 10x50. The second set of 10 should be swum faster than the first set, and the 50s in the third/final set should be fastest.

Try to get a consistent 1 to 2 seconds difference between each of the 50's in each set. The first 10 take it as roughly +1, second 10 try and take those at your threshold pace, then the third 10 try to go 2 seconds faster.

WU = warm up
MS = main set
CD = cool down

I'm going to start a triathlon-themed restaurant and those will be the names of the dishes rather than appetizer, entree and dessert.
