Our gym has hot tubs and cold plunges in the locker rooms.  They used to have a sign about bathing suits being required, but it wasn't always followed.  They took the sign down.  Problem fixed.

It does skeeve me out a bit, especially when they get in WITHOUT showering ahead of time, and I'm imagining what's floating on the surface.  Though when you really think about it, what does a layer of spandex/lycra/polyester really do?  Maybe just a "visual" aid.

I still use the tubs, especially the cold plunge.  Seems to really help with recovery.  And I'll wear whatever shorts I was working out in, AFTER rinsing off in the shower.

Hot tubs have chemical treatment to keep them clean so I'm not sure sweat is really a big deal kind of like a pool.  I love the steam room but I cringe when I think what I'm sitting on in there.

Hoping the hot temps kill all the bacteria.

It is amazing how much "scum" gathers in a hot tub?  I am not sure about the regulations on the cleaning of a hot tub anymore as I am not working in that area anymore, but we drained/cleaned the YMCA hot tub quite often, just because of the build up of soaps and body oils, etc... that are just lovely to try and remove.

Yes, we tested our chemicals in our hot tub twice a day minimum to make sure the chlorine or bromine levels are in the proper range.  Our lifeguards had to check the pool chemicals at shift changes, so we were verifying that we never went out of range.  The maintenance manager was a CPO, along with two others in our small YMCA, so we always had someone available to check on the system if there were problems.

When we took the CPO classes, the two instructors said that they "never" get into a public hot tub.  They own their own and use those, but will never use one in a gym or at a hotel.

Jeez, I may just hit the steam room from now on.

I once saw a giant hairball looking thing at the bottom of the lap pool.  Me and the girl next to me saw it and were immediately grossed out and done.

What do we do?

Hit the hot tub

bad to worse

The worst is when you swim into a used diaper in Lake Michigan. At least it wasn't a dead body, I guess.

Yes the ones at all of my local Ys are closed for 2 hours every Wednesday for draining/cleaning. I'd venture to say they are much cleaner than the one in my backyard Sealed

Not sure what the rules are here where I live. Haven't ventured into an indoor hot tub in ages, but when I was in Thailand with my soccer team, naked seemed to be acceptable. Naked and very close to each other. Clothing and personal space, optional.
