Subject: Stolen UPS package - HELP!
Okay - so last week Wednesday I ordered a TriCo Iron Case from brandcycle.com. It was shipped UPS, and the first delivery attempt was last friday. I wasn't there to meet the truck, so I signed the Info Notice, which said it would then be delivered on Monday. I was out of town until just this morning, but I had to stop real quick at my apartment this morning on my way back from the airport (I live in a complex where all the apt. doors open to outdoor staircases) and saw that the package had been delivered. But at the moment, I didn't have time to wrestle a 40 lbs. box into my place. I came back at lunch to look at the package, and it wasn't freakin' there! None of my neighbors were around, and I'm praying that one of them stuck it in their apartment for me. If that's not the case and it was indeed stolen, can I make an insurance claim against UPS? Even though they delivered the package? Or am I just totally SOL? ANY help here would be greatly appreciated.

I think you're SOL, esp. since you saw the package at your door.

But that being said, call UPS and also call the company you bought from. I had a package stolen from my front door from Overstock, and they refunded my money.

I believe by signing the delivery notice thingy you are out of luck.  However I think your homeowners insurance or apartment insurance might cover it.  I am by no means an expert on it though, but it would be a place to start.

Def SOL. Once you sign that delivery notice, you basically told took all resposibility. That is why they make you sign that thing so they are not held liable. I dont know how your neighborhood is but ask around about it. Someone may have grabbed it and thought that they were getting something good only to find an empty box in a bigger box. maybe they will drop it back off.

SOL, but the homeowners/renters insurance thing is a good recourse depending on the deductable. I know the case is about $300 bucks, so it depends.

I have been having my bike/bike box delivered to a store where I used to work so that there is always someone there. I also bought the box from them orignially, so they got something out of the deal as well, and as long as I pick it up quickly, they don't seem to mind. I keep buying stuff there so I keep in good favor...it's worth not having a bike stolen.

As others indicated, I think you're SOL regarding UPS since you signed the form.  But I think that Mastercard or Visa may have some sort of stolen goods protection or replacement policy or warranty policy or something like that. Not 100% about this but it might be worth looking into it.

That sounds like a very good plan for people who are single, or don't have a home where it is very safe to leave packages at the door.
