I like to drink..simple as that.  But why on Earth does it take me an entire week to recover.

Hydration is the key to recovery.  There are no "take ___mg of Ibuprofen, a shot of coconut water and a snort of pixie dust" and wake up with no hangover tricks.

Drink more water one days you know you will end up drinking later and drink even more water in the following days.

Beer and Cheese Curds every Wednesday night, whether I like it or not.  I am ok with the beer, it's the overeating that goes with it that gets me.

x2 on the hydration and electrolytes.  Hydration during (try to drink a few glasses of water amongst the glasses of alcohol) is super key, as is not totally getting plastered.  Gatorade or similar the next day helps bring things back quickly, too, partnered with, again, water to rehydrate.

I'm just going to guess that this might have something to do with the quantity of whatever you are drinking.  Not to judge or anything (seriously, I'm not), but if your recovery time is actually a week, you may consider drinking less per outing.

Beer I can drink on a Saturday night and still get up bright and early and have a great Sunday morning ride. Liquor.........takes about 2 days, so I stay away from it

I'm not a big drinker but I do love red wine.  Sadly, any more than a glass or two and I'll have a headache the next day but I have come up with a remedy that which totally works for me.  Right before bed I take an extra vitamin B complex with glass of NUUN hydration tablet.  Voila, no headache the next day.

Because we are getting old OP... sucks but true.  I remember college when I could stay out until 3AM and be ready for an 8AM class and be sharp but not now.

I'm on the Paleo Diet now so no alcohol for me... the lack of pizza is the worst part of the diet so far. but they usually went hand in hand for me.

More water before drinking and after is a good idea however I also try and do it DURING...

I don't drink like I did when I was younger, however when I know I'm going to have more than a few, I'll have a glass of water in-between every couple drinks/beers etc...

That does two things for me...One it causes me to think a bit more about how much alcohol I'm drinking and hopefully if I'm thinking clearly I'll slow down....Two, the higher amount of water in the system helps to fight off dehydration which is a big contributor to the hangover...

The other thing to be cognizant of is the quality of alcohol....Cheap liquor and wine, as well as keg beer in dirty lines will contribute mightily to a bad "next day"...

Moderation is best, then quality, then water consumption...

Just like training, consistency is the key.

I like my two glasses of red wine every evening.  I figure I deserve it.

I have found that the G3 gatorade recovery drinks work like a charm!  After a heavy night of drinking I come home and down one before going to bed.  First thing in the morning, down another one...that afternoon I am good to go!

Totally agree!  I love to have a glass of wine, but it really dehydrates me.  So I have 16 ounces of water before and after.

Have to agree on 3 things, water while you drink, train to drink more, and age... I sure can't hop out of bed like I used to after a night of beer.

age as much as anything, and from what I recall, the ability to recover falls off rapidly in the late 20's. Nearly 20 years later, I'm not feeling right if I have 4 or 5 drinks. Lots of water with it, and before bed helps.

I'm partial to the orange and the grape.  It helps to have lots of friends with kids as they always have it hanging around when my new mommy friends want to go out for the first time after the little one has arrived.

I drink a fair amount and rarely if ever get hungover. My tricks are hydration (before and lots before I sleep), good before bed and lots of practice.
