Pre-race routine:

My wave didn't start until 11:20 so it was a fairly regular morning with a peanut butter sandwich and banana for breakfast with a gatorlyte supplemented gatorade chaser. Arrived 1 hr pre-race and set up transition.
Event warmup:

Swam a 50 and then got to the wall for the best starting position.

Comments:

Had a good start and direct line to the 1st buoy. Had a guy inside and one outside trying to squeeze me out so I moved around and was 5th around the buoy.
What would you do differently?:

Started even further inside as its dominated by the slower swimmers and should be easy to get out in front for a direct line.

Comments:

Transition was a bit slow as I was trying something new...I know but it was the first race of the year and doing it for the joy of it. Decided to wear a bike jersey instead of tri top and the jersey was difficult to get on. The racks didn't allow for my rear hydration so I had to put the bottles on the bike before leaving.
What would you do differently?:

Stick with a tri top and not try to put anything on wet.

New bike course had some rough spots and car traffic that was hard not to notice and be somewhat weary going into the corners. There was a slight north wind but my new Flo 60/90 wheels handled it great. I was passed by only two riders not in my age group in 20 mi.
What would you do differently?:

Know the course before riding it.

I took a bit of time...as I swung my leg over I got a cramp which took a second to stop. I also wanted to finish a water bottle from the bike.

Good flat run. Dealt with the muscle spasms and mild cramping and came in with a decent run. I finally caught up with my training partner's 16 yr old daughter doing her first triathlon in the last mi. Ran half mi with and then was starting to see a few runners behind so I kicked it into the finish. Was passed by only 2 runners, neither of which was in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed a bit harder towards the end.

Drank and walked/stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cramps...ongoing issue that I have not been able to train out or medicate out.

Event comments:

I kept my time on my watch. I started the time at 1min to swim start and stopped it after finishing and talking to volunteers and cheering on my training partners daughter. My time showed 1:51. The official time was 1:52 and I would have estimated based upon the early start and late stop that it should have been 1:49. I was behind only 7 total people in my wave yet ended up behind 9 total in the results, several of which were not in my age group...something seems a bit off with the timing.
