ok so I would like to do a 70.3 outside the US next year and I wanted to know if there any races that are not too expensive and conveinent to make it a vacation as well.  Some requirements are:

Not in summer

Flat Bike

lots to do for the wife

What have been your experiences?

Not too expensive is pretty subjective. I would start looking for ones with a flat bike and not in summer like you wanted then compare the costs / attractions. Then give the list to your wife and let her pick.

Normally that would be a great idea...but she is the indecisive type....as for too expensive, I just mean best bang for your buck....

Check out the Challenge Family. I'll be doing Challenge Aarhus (70.3) on June 23rd. Denmark is flat as hell so it should be fine.

I saw the subject of the thread and was going to reply Muskoka 70.3 in Ontario.  Then I saw "relatively flat bike" and I've decided to recommend against it, based on your criteria.  Sorry!

Actually, I think all of the 70.3s in Canada have hilly bikes - Muskoka, Calgary, Montreal...am I right?

I guess that leaves off the 70.3 European championships in Frankfurt/Wiesbaden.. Its a great race but right at the end of summer and the bike leg is an absolute killer with hills. Awesome vacation spot though.

I just finished San Juan yesterday, and would definitely recommend it. Beautiful and very flat bike course, but a very hot and challenging run. Lots to do here, too.

There's a flat 70.3 in Ontario, Canada at Welland - very very very flat! it's close to Niagara Falls and in the heart of Ontario Wine Country , there are some lovely spas and restaurants around too. I think it takes place in June - so don't think it meets the not summer criteria .

The company that runs it is called Multisport Canada - if you have any questions check out the Ontario forum - the race director , John Salt - is often to be found on there.

Phuket !

Laguna Phuket Triathlon on 24 Nov and then Laguna Challenge 70.3 on 1 Dec 2013. If you are going to travel, might as well get in two races!
