I want to die.  Yes I can be a bit hyperbolic, but there are times when I'm on the treadmill or trainer and I think "this isn't worth it, just kill me"

LOL! Yes, this. Last night I was laying in bed freezing and I wanted to break down crying, "I am so sick of being cold!"

You got it.  I have a couple of others who might be interested too.  Not sure where you do a lot of your riding, but I've found some places I feel *relatively* safe going out from Jenison into Hudsonville and such.  I tend to be sprint focused so our goals may not align (going on memory from your posts that you may be focused on HIM and IM?), but doesn't stop a few group rides!

Maybe a few swims at 8th Avenue park down then road, too...but I'm *that* guy who has an allergy to something in a lot of lakes and yet still swims, so I get out and start getting sneezy and bloodshot.

So...

1.  Hate running?  Check (albeit that may improve with my new custom orthotics).

2.  Allergic to lake swimming?  Check

Seems like a good combo for being a triathlete right?  Good thing I'm a moron who just does it anyways!

haha awesome.

yeah I do tend to go on "longer" rides (Typically 30-50 during the week, 60+ on weekends), but there's a 17 mile loop that I do frequently when I'm doing speed work.  It starts and ends basically by the Hudsonville middle school--exactly 17 miles

go up 36th, left on fillmore, left on 72nd ave, left on port sheldon, left on 40th and finish up by the middle school.  The route is exactly 17 miles.

I'm pretty much down for pretty much anything though. That stretch down 72nd street is wide open farm land and when the wind is coming out of the southeast it's a BEAR.

I've actually never been to 8th ave park, is it clean?

?

iLOVEwaffles - 2013-03-25 8:28 PM Is 8th Avenue park a good place to swim?  I'm living in Allendale over the summer (originally from the Detroit area) and haven't had any opportunities to look for clean/safe open water swim practice locations in the area.

Hello waffles, we're neighbors (for the summer)

Assuming you're not a serial killer, you're welcome to come swim with me sometime (as is anyone else here who isn't a serial killer) in a very clean private lake located in Hudsonville.

8th Avenue is okay, relatively clean. There is actually a Jenison Triathlon running out of this lake in mid May, which sure seems like it is going to be cold this year. The biggest problem with 8th is that Georgetown Township charges non-residents to use it in the summer months. I think they usually have someone working the gate from 10AM-7PM.

The options for OWS are somewhat limited, in my opinion, in the West Michigan area. I spend a lot of weekens in Grand Haven in my boat, so I swim from the Grand Haven beach a handful of times, but I tend to do a majority of my swims in a pool.

I can almost 100% guarantee I am a serial killer, so I would love to get some swimming in with you!  It's always good to do open water swimming with a buddy, I'm a certified lifeguard as well so we'll be extra safe.

On a different topic. It's nice outside!! Hope everyone is taking advantage of this weather!

Ok everyone...listen up.  We just had to replace our furnace today because it went out for the umpteenth time this winter.  So I GUARANTEE now that we spent the $$$ on the furnace, the weather will turn and it will get warm very soon.  I am sure of it!

Awesome, thanks Kristen!

You can all also thank me for the gorgeous weather on Saturday.  I strained my calf and can't run for at least a week so of course one of the nicest days we've had in 2013 has to fall on what would normally be my long run day Cry

Excellent, well I don't feel confident that you won't try to drown me, but as soon as the water heats up a bit we can get some swimming in.

It's a nice lake to swim in actually--the pumps create an artificial current which makes for a nice workout when doing laps.

Sunshine is out, hope it stays that way. The birds seem to think it's spring but it's not really feeling like it yet. The willingness to bundle up to ride outside has waned. Running: yes but for quick bike? It's been inside. Ready for the warmth and sun any time!

I got my first official outdoor ride in tonight!  Legs were jelly, I was slower than molasses, still coughing in the hard efforts, toes were frozen from a poor sock choice selection, and had a stronger than expected headwind for the first 8 miles...and it felt great!  Loved every second of it!

I wish I could join you at ILRA tomorrow...small chance, but it isn't looking good.  Enjoy your first ride!  I know I enjoyed mine!

(Confession:  I kept my trainer tire on...and probably will for the next few weeks still.  I'm too lazy to swap them multiple times.)

FINALLY got in the first ride of the season at Island Lake last night, hurray!  High 50's and sun felt perfect with leg warmers, a wind breaker and riding gloves.

Now let's work on a *little* more warmth to get that lake temp up....I'll take the lake at 60 degrees even Laughing

We also finally put rubber to road last night.  Hines Drive was unusually free of road debris but windy, which is totally normal.  It was a beautiful ride with the sun on my back.  Can't wait to do it again soon!

*Sigh*.  Back to whining again.  Nothing but 50's all the way out to the 10 day forecast.  Well, that ONE nice day on the bike was great.

At this rate, I wonder if OWS training for Island Lake will consist soley of the pre-race warm up........

boo.....really?  I know I know "April showers bring May flowers"  Ugh.  Enduring blizzards, frost bite, icy roads and trails, and now I get to finish off my marathon training in pouring rain.  As the kids like to put in their texts:  FML.  heh heh.  Ah well, Memorial Day in Traverse City is bound to be nicer, right?  Right?  RIGHT????

ding, ding, ding, we have a winner....

I looked at the weather and thought, uh-uh, not doing 18 miles with up to 20+mph wind gusts.  I'm not into that type of self-torture.  Tomorrow, while going to be chilly, looks to have shining sun, and almost negligible wind speeds.
