Thought I'd ask and see what everyone thinks about compression socks and are they worth it?

What's everyones top choice?

I'm leaning towards the sleeves for triathlons b/c of how hard they are to get on.

would I need to wear these under my wetsuit? or just put them on during either T1 or T2?

I wouldn't wear them to begin with. Do they actually aid performance anyways? I feel like during exercise your blood is pumping so much anyways it wouldn't do anything for you except actually restrict flow.

I don't think you are allowed to wear compression gear under wet suits. Thought i heard that somewhere don't quote me on that...

It is legal to wear compression socks under a wetsuit.

As for favorite brand of compression socks, that is like trying to answer what is your favorite triathlon shorts/kits.  Sometimes, one just has to try out the clothing for sizing purposes and other.  I love my Desoto wetsuits, triathlon shorts/tops but their compression sleeves/socks are just a little too long for my preference.

But the longer the socks the more triathlete they are. And more aero.

Put on sleeves before the swim (with or without wetsuit). There is no way to get them on in transition. It might be placebo but I wear them for any hard training day and every race and socks/tights afterward; they aid in my soreness and recovery.

I like the sleeves for longer distance stuff.  I feel like they keep my calves from getting fatigued a little longer.  I like zoot for most of this type of stuff.  Just be warned that if you are really tall or have really long legs, most of these sleeves are meant for an "average" height person.

No they don't make you more aero.  You're a nut.

Just bought CEP socks and wow do I love these things. Don't train in them but use them for recovery after runs and leg days. Cannot believe how good I feel when and after wearing them. Call it placebo I don't care, I feel a difference

I think I'm leaning towards the sleeves, seems like the socks are too difficult to get on and off

I like the sleeves because I can wear what ever socks I want.

I do have a pair of compression socks that I used today with an additional pair of socks. Normally my feet would be too hot, but it was 30 degrees out!

My personal favorite are CEP compression socks and Jobst, they are great brands and are very comfortable to use. I usually buy them online at Legs Therapy (http://www.legstherapy.com/).

I have a pair of CEP's and Zensah sleeves they are both ok to train in if I feel the need but for recovery I like the cheap ones you can buy at any pharmacy. They actually feel better and are more comfortable then the expensive ones.

I'm a true believer in compression socks for recovery.  I use the Drug store brand anti-embolism stockings.  After a very long run, I'll even sleep in them.  Greatly reduces post run soreness and swelling and is less painful than the ice bath.  I don't use them while running and haven't seen any studies that indicate any benefits to using them while exercising.

I have a cotton based one and a few polyester types too. The cotton one seems to be "tighter" but I normally use the other one as it's easier to wear for work, and it's black too. I forgot the brands but they're marketed for embolism and not sports recovery (same banana anyways). Cool

Never gave a thought to getting the ones from the drug store. I think I'd mostly like them for recovery, but would end up using them for long runs and cold weather. I'm doing the Pburg marathon in may, so I think i'll give them a shot while doing it

I really like my Zensah calf sleeves. They're about to come out with a pair with reflective patterns on it as well.

I'm sure there are many other brands that are great too. CEP, 2XU are all supposed to be very good.
