Swam when I young and stopped after High School swimming (burned out)

Picked up Running cause my dad did.

Saw a Tri in Chicago when working one weekend, seemed fun.

Got hooked in Tri for a few years and now I race my bike, run race, swim race, and will start Xterra. I've managed to podium in Tri, bike racing, swimming, and running. Just do stuff that seems interesting. Now want to pick up mountain bike racing and Xterra. New challenges, I guess. When I get hooked I go all in...

Competitive Swimmer in high school/College, Avid Road Cyclst my full adult life (and that's 3 1/2 decades), started running 2 1/2 years ago due to work travel and not being able to ride as much.  Worked up to 1/2 marathon distance and decided a tri was the next challenge.  Although I don't really consider a sprint as an endurance sport, since I'm already use to 4+ hour bicycle centuries and running HMs, guess I need to move up to the next distance and think about a HIM.  I still prefer to ride and decided why I think swimming is boring, because I can't chat while training like I can the other two sports.

I love to compete.  I love to ride. I love to win. I live in Miami. The first tri I did I won 2nd place in my AG.== I have been hooked ever since. :-)

I love the training.

I tend to overtrain so training the three disciplines helps me avoid injury over exclusively doing one.

Mixing swimming in with biking and running.....is euphoric.

I watched Julie Moss crawl across the finish line on t.v. when I was 13 years old.  I was immediately hooked.  The next weekend I rode my bmx 26 miles and ran 11 miles before my mom made me come in and get ready for baseball practice.  I saved my money and bought a "triathlon" bike -Centurion's Dave Scott Model-instead of buying a car.  Did my first triathlon at the age of 16 in 1985 and have done them off and on since.

Because of these guys... http://www.teamhoyt.com/index.html

I had the chance to hear Dick speak at a conference about 11 years ago.... Amazing.

Ever since it has been a dream which turned into a reality last year when I *finally* realized there were shorter races than an ironman!
