Not sure about all of the technical specs but you may want to look into a cooling fan or cooling system for it as well. You would hate to have the system overheating on your because of not enough cooling available and last time I worked with a friend in video editing it was a pretty intensive process. (that may not be the case anymore though)

The CPU is a boxed processor, so it comes with a stock cpu fan which should be good enough, but if you want to get all crazy with the cooling, look at the Corsair H50/90/110 closed system water cooling rigs. Relatively inexpensive and they work VERY well.

I agree with at least adding a 2TB drive for bulk storage.  250GB disappears quickly with large media files.

Aside from that... other than the fact that I'd prefer to stick with Win 7 over Win 8, that looks like a very solid system build.  It should pretty much scream 

I'll second the SSD drive. Put the OS on that and you'll boot in about 15 seconds. My laptop is dual SSD in RAID 0 config and it's 7 seconds from power on to the Windows 7 login screen. Really nice!

Also, I don't know if editing videos is i/o intensive, but if it is, scratch space on the SSD will speed things up enormously.

He's already got a 250GB SSD on the list... I assumed that was for OS.  It'd be easy to carve out a partition for scratch disk use... but, that said, he has 32GB of ram.  The video editing app should pretty much never need to use a scratch disk.

Thanks folks.  Forgot to add that I do have a limited budget, and when I priced out the Mac, I quickly went over my budget.

Also, I already have an external home network server with 4 separate terabyte drives in it.  I'll have to use that for data storage.  There's a couple of items on the list that I will purchase at Microcenter for cheaper..

I'm flexible on the monitor, and I don't think I need the Blue-Ray burner..  

If you just want a 27" monitor, but aren't set on a particular type of backlighting or display technology, look at the Hanns-G monitor.  A LOT cheaper, and I can vouch for it being a nice display as I have one at home and game on it regularly. I cannot, however, vouch for the accuracy of colors to the degree that a graphics artist might need, so if that is important, YMMV. I've had mine for almost three years and it has been very solid, no dead pixels, no signs of dying.

Given that you have that much network storage, then yeah, I agree, no need to put it in the system.

You'll love the Samsung SSD you picked out.  I just switched over to one and it just plain ROCKS

I'm still booting off an old 1st Gen Intel SSD, but that Samsung is stupid fast as my Data drive and I'm not even using it on a SATA III connection, so it is bottlenecking.

id throw in an aftermarket heat sink, not a lot of money and they really help keep everything cool and running for years to come.

zalman makes some really good ones on newegg, i've always used them in my builds. and get some artic silver, don't use that crap thermal compound that comes with your processor, and use a razor blade to apply.

Gforce 670 instead of 660. 120GB SSD for OS/Apps then 100-150 for a 2-3TB internal 7200 drive - same money, you will thank us. Use your network storage for backup of final copies.

Unless you actually will be making BD movies, I'd skip it and get a cheap dvd/burner.

Could also just get a 250 dollar 27" TN monitor, depending on your requirements. I edit gfx on mine. 2x8 GB ram would save some coin and see if you actually ever hit 16G. If you do, go buy another set of 2x8 but I'd be surprised. Up until Win7-64 we did fine with 4G.

I put Noctua heat sinks on my 4P compute server (science stuff). Even at full load it runs cool. What's the point of having fast CPU's if they have to throttle back because of temperature limits?

I just finished a new HD workstation for my videography Business last spring very similar specs except asus MB and ATi Video Card. The only real Change I had to make was I initially went  with 2- 120 GB Corsair SSD"S one for a system drive and one to house the editing programs, a 600 GB  10,00rpm Raptor drive as the work drive and A 2TB storage drive. I also Have 2 BD Drives installed one burner and one read only for ripping BD's, its just easier with 2 drives

It is working great the only change I made was to ditch the 120GB System SSD for a 512 GB SSD at Christmas time reguardles of what you do some programs just want to store crap on your system drive or wont allow installation on another drive and it gets full over time., I kept the 120SSD In at just loaded it with my most frequently used programs

 so now the set up is 512GB SSD- System drive

                               120GB SSD- Video editing programs, avid +  adobe Premire

                               120 GB SSD-  adobe Photoshop and Games

                                600GB Raptor-  HD Video Capture and Working drive

                                 2 TB cavalier Black- storage

This system works great for full 1080P HD editing and BD Production and avoids using typical raid configurations like my other editing systems have. My older Quad core HD system has 6 hard drives 2- 2X500GB HD's   strip raided to handle HD capture and processing reliably, the Raptor does this easily without any hiccup's. I agree with some of the others 16GB ram is more then sufficient and will save some money
