May 19th. I'm planning on this one. Has anyone done it? Know anything about it?

I was originally looking for any marathon the weekend of May 18th, within driving distance of Lansing. Are there any MI running sites that might have better listings for small local races than MarathonGuide or whatnot? Running clubs? Sometimes it's hard to find little local races online.

Thanks!

Hmmm, I'm originally from that area and unfortunately I don't know much about it. It's cutting into triathlon season a bit, yes? I know lots of places to eat in Bay City if you need recommendations. =) What do the medals look like? I swore off spring marathons after my next one but I could be talked into it for the right medal...

I did this race last year as it was the inagural event.  Last year it went from Midland to Bay City.  I'm very glad to see they changed the course.  Last year the course had a 9mi stretch down a very straight road that had just been re-asphalted. The surface was very nice, but when the race started it was almost 70 degrees and when I finished, it was 85.  So that fresh resurface with no shade was painfully hot.  That being said the community did a great job of having sprinklers going that you could run thru and people were at the end of their driveways trying to help you cool off if need be.

The race director did a great job of trying to deal with the heat and people that were dropping like flies, but it there was not much he could do about the weather.

As for running schedules, check out runmichigan.com.  Most of the clubs have their local races on there.

HAHAHAHA! This makes me laugh so hard. I live in Louisiana. We've had "spring" for the past 2 months, 70 degrees will feel great in May! I've also done point-to-points on lonely, straight roads. Those aren't the most fun. I can deal with it though. This course map seems pretty interesting, enough curves, a big loop.

That said, I'm not worried about the weather. "hot" in May up there will not feel hot to me. I've done 80-90 degree marathons before.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out!

I don't know...I don't do triathlons anymore

I have no idea what they look like. They don't seem to have a Facebook page with social media updates and I'm not seeing anything on the website.

Unfortunately, I'd be driving in that morning from Lansing, then driving right back after. Maybe a hitting a place for lunch before I drive back.

Try Running Fit in Ann Arbor they have a bunch of cool trail races.  I think they go on ashphalt also.  You can try Stu Allen on face book.  He is a local ultra guy, if it has to do with running a distance he probabley can steer you in the direction.  Also Baumans running store in Flint usally has a list of races, oh and run michigan.com

Thanks! I already found a couple that I hadn't seen before, exactly what I was looking for. They're not close to where I'll be, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something different.

Www.runmichigan.com usually even has training runs listed. I'll check the marathon maniacs site and see if there is any small homegrown events.

I'm registered for this. I couldn't find anything else that would work. I was stuck with this particular marathon, even though I'd rather do Detroit or Martian. Oh well.

Anyone else?

I ran it last year, and am still deciding about this year. It was well organized. The aid stations were all fully stocked, and the people watching very enthusiastic. Support was great. The 9 mile stretch was tough. The change keeping it around Midland should make it better and give more shade.
