Subject: Ironman 70.3 Miami : Official Thread

Just signed up today, planning on racing for fun with some friends as the end to a busy season.  Hopefully the issues from the past have been resolved.   :)

Just did Oceanside 70.3 yesterday, Wildflower 70.3 in 5 weeks, IM Canada in August, then Miami.  Bringing my talents to South Beach.....:)

eta - Didn't see an open thread so started one, hope there is not one already!

I'm in.

Decided against an August/Sept HIM and instead signed up for this one and then going on a cruise after the race!

I'm in too, this will be my first HIM and A race for the season, I'm very excited about it.

I wanted to start taking a more structure approach to training this week, a 18 weeks training plan I put together; but, life - grad school - got in the way; so, I'll make it a 17 weeks plan starting next week.

Good for me.  I am getting back into a groove after doing Mont Tremblant a few weeks ago.

Training is going great so far. Just completed my first HIM in Racine, WI. What an amazing experience! Excited about the Miami 70.3. Although, I've never done an ocean swim. Anything to be nervous about (other than my irrational fear of jellyfish)? I'm from Chicago and swim in Lake Michigan which can get pretty choppy at times with chilly water temps, sometimes as low as the 50s. What conditions can I expect in Biscayne Bay? Any help I could get would be very much appreciated. Less than a hundred days away!

I believe it's in a protected harbor, so absent a hurricane (not joking....), the swim whould be calm.  But no wetsuits.

My training came to a complete halt two weeks ago. My two kids were sick, then I got sick and ended up with bronchitis

I think I should be able to get back to very light training today or tomorrow, but this really hurt my confidence in doing a decent first HIM. I was supposed to get some long rides and runs in the last 2 weeks; so, I'm really frustrated. My new goal until race day is to not get sick again.

Cheers

It sucks getting sick during training!  I hope you are able to get back into it and enjoy the race still.

My run and bike training has been going well, swimming not so much as I am nursing an aggravated shoulder.  I'm looking forward to getting out there though.

Where is everyone (that isn't local) staying?  I'm at the Marriot Courtyard Miami which seems to be pretty close to everything.

Renting someone's condo in South Beach...got a good deal on Airbnb.com. Should be interesting. Can't wait!

Time to start looking at weather?   Looks like it's going to be a little wet and humid but maybe not so hot, low 80s.

I propose we all pray for Canadian weather.

It's far from Canadian weather at this time of the year. We haven't seen any rain for at least a week, and it looks like that won't change. The mornings are starting to get cooler - low 20s Celsius is our definition of cooler, but it's still hot from noon-3PM, which means a challenging half marathon for slower athletes like me.

I'm in one of the last waves so I'll be running in that heat no matter how fast I go!
