Yes it is waterproof. No, it will not give HR data for swimming.

I have the NEW new strap and wish I had not sold the old style strap with my old Garmin. Garmin has excellent customer service. They have sent me a third replacement now which, unfortunately is now having the same random issues as the previous straps. Sometimes it will spike all over the place. Sometimes it gets stuck on a number and won't budge. And sometimes it works perfectly. I think I'm going to ask for an old style strap as the next replacement.

It sounds like you all have the OLD new Garmin strap that has two snaps onto the actual strap.

There is NEW soft Garmin strap (well, it's been a few years since it came out) that has a side hook so that there isn't a disconnect in the middle.  The transmitter snaps onto the strap, it doesn't connect it.

THew NEW new soft strap works fine....

Bought my Garmin 910XT less than a year ago with the "NEW" new soft strap and it is so inaccurate I have stopped looking at the HR reading.  I'm gonna try the Polar strap.  Thank you

I have had the same issue. I thought it had to do with switching run bras and how they fit, so I have just abandoned the hr sensor. I'm going to try the polar strap now. I would like to have the info.

I have a soft strap and the only time I had problems was when the terminals to the removable part became corroded. I cleaned that up and haven't had a problem since.  I have used it dry, wet, and with the gel.  It works no matter what.  Maybe you have a lemon?  I'd contact Garmin and ask them.

I'll just mention that I also have the Garmin soft strap and have experienced the spiking 3 times now in 2 months of having it, all on the bike where I use a Garmin Edge 500.  For whatever reason, I haven't seen the problem running, where I use a basic Garmin FR 110.

The spike has always occurred close the very beginning of the bike ride (I moisten the sensors before putting it on), and has gone away after 1-10 minutes.

I'm very close to ordering the Polar soft strap.
