Extreme Veteran 601 Bainbridge Island, Washington | Subject: 2013 Race Schedule Hey all - We are moving to Seattle in the next few weeks and need to get a race schedule in place for my husband and I. We are training for Ironman Cozumel (his 1st, my 2nd). I am looking for input on these races: June 1 Issaquah Sprint Tri June 30 Black Hills Sprint Tri July 21 Seafair Olympic Tri August 25 Lake Meridian Olympic Tri September 8 Tri-Turtle Tri (Bremerton - I have done this before and it is my favorite all time) Septebember 14 Black Diamond 70.3 December 1 Ironman Cozumel My husband is brand new to tri's, so we have alot of work to do! Any input you have is greatly appreciated. If you know of any better options, please let me know. Thank you! Kris |

Extreme Veteran 875 Issaquah | Subject: RE: 2013 Race Schedule Issaquah is a good opening season race. The course isn't great, and it's generally packed, but it's a well run race. I have done Black Diamond 3x and will be back for a 4th this year. The course is also just so-so, but it's a good race to end the season (being in late Sept, you can count on the rains to return in earnest about 1-2 weeks after this race) and the course is relatively flat so good to PR on. Also check into Lake Stevens 70.3 in July, Chelanman (various distances up to 70.3) also in the July time frame as well as Beaver Lake (a sprint) as good, to even great (Chelan), local'ish races.

Extreme Veteran 601 Bainbridge Island, Washington | Subject: RE: 2013 Race Schedule Awesome! Thanks for the input. Great suggestions! What do you mean the course is not so great? What makes it not so great? Road conditions? I'm coming from Texas where almost every race is HUGE lol so crowding doesn't bother me. |

What makes it not so great? Road conditions? I'm coming from Texas where almost every race is HUGE lol so crowding doesn't bother me. We're spoiled by very scenic and/or fun, challenging, courses for many of the races and training options here. Issaquah just happens to be on the section of Lk Samm that you see very little of the lake, and the terrain is kind of boring to ride on. It's really not bad, and traffic wise not a problem at all (I live near Lk Samm and have done many, many laps around that lake in training rides). The run is much the same. I don't want to trash the race too much though, it is well run and a fun atmosphere. Since you also have time to get in more bike rides before your IM late this fall, check out some of the local bike rally's. Tons of great rides during the summer time that you can use as catered training opportunities. I would start by checking out the Cascade bicycle club for some of their rides. Also check out the Redmond club (search for RAMROD) to get to their main page as I can't remember their full club name. Welcome to the PNW!

Extreme Veteran 601 Bainbridge Island, Washington | Subject: RE: 2013 Race Schedule Haha funny you should say that, I was just writing their cycle tours on our schedule. This is what I came up with: 6/8 Flying Wheels 6/29 World Cycle Relief 9/29 Kitsap Color Classic Looks like we're too late for STP, so that will have to wait until next year. I've done it once, but would like my husband to experience it lol |

FW is a fun ride and I've heard good things about the color classic too. |

Extreme Veteran 601 Bainbridge Island, Washington | Subject: RE: 2013 Race Schedule Oh you're doing CdA? Sweet! I'll be there to watch some friends and am working as a bike catcher from 11-5:30. I did it in '11 and we may sign up for next year while there. |

Member 38 Seattle | Subject: RE: 2013 Race Schedule I am doing IM Cozumel as well & live in Bellevue. Welcome to the NW! You should also look at the Portland tri's as the drive down there is not bad at all, about 2 1/2 hours. We are missing the Rev3 race this year due to some road construction outside of Portland, but Leadman is happening. The Portland tri is a well run Olympic. Welcome to the hills, I have to travel to Dallas (Irving) often for work so the hills might take a little getting used to on the bike rides after the "hills" in the Dallas area! jsm |

Extreme Veteran 601 Bainbridge Island, Washington | Subject: RE: 2013 Race Schedule Oh awesome! Actually, I grew up in Washington (Bainbridge Island), so I'm fully aware of the hills lol just better training! One question - how are you getting your bike to Cozumel? Is there a local transport company? We have them here in Dallas, but am not aware of any in Seattle. I did look at some of the Portland races, and they are still options but was really trying to stay local for now. Thanks for the input though! |

Member 38 Seattle | Subject: RE: 2013 Race Schedule You will need to take your bike to SpeedyReedy in Fremont they are the Tribike transport site for the Seattle. We used to have 2, the other one closed. Love Tribike transport used them for AZ & Louisville and they worked out great. |

Extreme Veteran 601 Bainbridge Island, Washington | Subject: RE: 2013 Race Schedule I see that, but shoot - 3 weeks ahead? Ugh... I used a different transport company to go to CdA 2 years ago - loved it. So nice not to have to deal with the bike! |

Regular 1126 East Wenatchee, Washington | Subject: RE: 2013 Race Schedule The ChelanMan race is a gas. They have options of a Sprint, Oly or HIM, although on different days of the weekend. It falls on the same weekend (July 21?) as the SeaFair Tri so you'll have a choice to make. But, if you want to venture out into eastern Washington, it will be a great trip and you're almost guaranteed to have sun...which can be iffy in Seattle, even in summer. Here's a guarantee: you'll never do a triathlon in cleaner, clearer water. Lake Chelan is spectacular. Lake Chelan is 3rd deepest lake in the U.S. after Crater Lake and Lake Tahoe and is super clear. Best of all, there is a cable line about 15 feet deep to hold the course marker bouys. Once you find that cable you never have to lift your head to site for directions. It's a gas, but be advised it sells out early and housing in Chelan can be hard to get. As a fall back you can stay in Wenatchee (where I live) and easily drive the morning of the race (about 40 minutes). |

Member 38 Seattle | Subject: RE: 2013 Race Schedule Couldn't have said that better! Steve glad to not be racing against you too much this year (I'd be chasing you...), you look like you have a good schedule! Which distance are you doing in Chelan, Oly?

Hey there--I'm not sure I'm doing ChelanMan this year. I'm trying to time my training for Age Group Nationals which are 14 days after the ChelanMan race. So I'm a little worried about putting in a hard effort that close to a key race. And it's really hard to enter a race and then go "control speed." I'll have to see what my coach has to say. |
