Pre-race routine:

Small bowl of oatmeal. This is my hometown race so no traveling was involved.

Comments:

I signed up for this race at the last minute. My friend Mary was a pacer for the 2:45 group. Since she runs more like a 2:10 half, this was going to be a challenge. We practiced a couple of weeks ago on this course and came in at 2:38. Plan was to assist her in maintaining an 11:50 pace with a run 4 minute/walk 1 minute interval. Sounds good in theory but it didn't exactly work out that way, and by mile 5 the group was pulling away and running more like a 10:45. Dropped back and stuck to my plan. Only walked one big hill in the cemetery. The last two miles are pretty much a straightway and there was a stiff headwind. I did a lot more walking in those last two miles.
What would you do differently?:

My long runs are typically 10 miles. Doing more 13-14 mile long runs would go a long way toward helping with that "11 mile bonk" that I usually experience.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and talked with some friends. Had another commitment at home so couldn't stick around for post race party. :(

What limited your ability to perform faster:

General laziness about doing longer runs.

Event comments:

Good race, cool penny medal. Nice technical shirts.
