Total Time = 1h 27m 6s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 11/17
Pre-race routine:

Up early for the drive to Birmingham. Was thrilled to have my son with me... stopped for doughnuts for him while I had some fruit oatmeal and coffee for the drive.
Event warmup:

Virtually nothing other than Transition setup. I had a Vanilla GU and some water 20 minutes before the start.
Run
  • 27m 43s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I knew I had to take it easy on the run and not set off anything in my neck. I ran a very controlled, medium effort pace and just ran my own race.
What would you do differently?:

I personally do not care for the trail portion as there is nearly zero chance to pass a slower runner and the route is full of roots and slippery pipe sections.
Transition 1
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

I had a nice Transition with a flying mount but then had difficulty getting clipped in. Right cleat would not lock on the pedal.
What would you do differently?:

I ordered new cleats as my current ones are really worn down.
Bike
  • 42m 55s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 17.34 mile/hr
Comments:

A loss in fitness after nearly 6 weeks of doing almost nothing so my neck can recover really hurt me on the climbs. I threw my chain at 7.5 miles... to the outside which forced me to stop and dismount to fix. I consumed 2/3 of a bottle of Fluid Performance Citrus (review coming) and some Cherry Blossom Honey Stinger chews.
What would you do differently?:

Not throw chain on shift and not get injured prior to racing.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

I had a good T2... even steady effort.
What would you do differently?:

Practice.
Run
  • 14m 20s
  • 1.55 miles
  • 09m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

Given a lack of training never mind a lack of brick workouts really showed itself on the 2nd run. Legs were heavy coming off of the bike but I continued to press on. Again... do not care for the trail portion.... had to make a couple of passes in the woods.
What would you do differently?:

Move route to the road. Get in some brick workouts.
Post race
Warm down:

Water and a banana followed by some Fluid Recovery!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training due to injury.

Event comments:

My first multisport event as a TheTriShop.com team member. LOVED the new kit!

I agree on the trail section of the run! It was pretty hard to race on that section, especially on Run2. I really liked the venue, though.
