Age Group Rank = 85/131
Pre-race routine:

Up at 3:45, 1/2 bottle of powerade, drive to race site, transition setup, ate bagle w/ PB about 6:15 (should have eaten about 30 minutes sooner) before 8:05 wave start.
Event warmup:

none...very little stretching
Swim
  • 37m 29s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

good swim. didn't feel like i was overexerting...as was the plan. "long training day" for ironman, so i wanted to make sure i had a lot left in the tank.
What would you do differently?:

i could have pushed harder had i been racing
Transition 1
  • 05m 14s
Comments:

new layout for transition this year...longer run through the corrals in and out of transition. this added some time, but i don't feel like i wasted too much time.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 3h 08m 30s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.82 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

i liked what i did on the bike...not sure if the poor run to follow was the result of the bike pacing or something else. never felt like i was overly exerted. i did push in places, but always felt good at the effort i was riding.
Transition 2
  • 02m 51s
Comments:

in and out and a quick kiss on my way :)
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Run
  • 2h 47m 50s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 12m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

started out with a sharp pain in the outside arch of my right foot...thought i may be walking the entire way because of the pain. fortunately it subsided a little over 1/2 mile into the run. was doing ok up until the third mile...then my pace plummetted. was fighting lower back pain (which i never have)...and the legs were not cooperative.
What would you do differently?:

maybe less on the bike...but i'm thinking it was just a bad run day for me. it happens... glad it was only a training day.
Post race
Warm down:

not much...walked around...a few kisses and a nice embrace after the finish line. ;)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

having a bad day on the run

Event comments:

well run race. plenty of post race food and drink this year. some aid stations were slow in filling/handing out water/perform/cola in the later laps. no ice sponges this year...1st aid station ran out and never saw any others. they did have cups of ice at all aid stations though.

Nice job working through the pain. I've had that shooting pain in my foot before coming off the bike.  It's rough!

nice job.  Could be that you didn't really taper for the race either but were probably still pushing harder then training pace.  Random kisses throughout the race, not a bad day regardless.  Surprised
