Comments: Tenth time I've run this race, which is the largest 15k race in the US. Over 10,000 runners registered for the race. I never really felt good the whole race until the last 5k. I was strangely calm before the race which is unusual for me. Probably should have realized something was up. First couple of miles were right where I wanted to be pace wise, but if felt like I was working hard, and I was already feeling the heat. Each water stop I was throwing as much water on me as I was taking in. Miles 3 and 4 are uphill, and by then I was just trying to find a pace I was comfortable with, mile 5 is all down hill, and in the past i've been around 7:15 for the mile, today it was 8:09. Knew I would see my family at mile 6, so I focussed on getting to them. After I saw them, I caught a second wind, and ground up the hardest long hill between mile 6 and 7 (uphill the whole mile in 8:30), then hit the long down hill, conserving energy for the last mile which is mostly uphill. Covered the last two miles in sub-8:00 for each mile and finished about 2 min. off a PR and about 30 sec. slower than last year. What would you do differently?: Probably not help my father in-law move 1.5 tons of wood pellets for his wood stove the day before Post race
Warm down: Walked down to teh post race party, grabbing some chocolate chip cookies and a couple of free beers at 9:30 WOOHOO Last updated: 2006-07-09 12:00 AM

Up at 5:30, walked to convenience store for a coffee and hard roll with PB&J. GDrove 30 min. to to race and got there at 7:00. Waited for an old friend, who I see every year at this race. Then we walked to starting line.
Ran to the bathroom a couple of times
