Event warmup:

nothing really walking from the truck and them back to put up pump and get wetsuit seemed like enogh. :)
Swim
  • 33m 59s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had lots of traffic issues. I started about 4 people back from the front. I am not a fast swimmer but I like to be closer to the front to draft some of the faster guys. I guess I got behind a bad group or maybe one was messing up all of us. The guy right in front of me took off hard left taking out all kinds of people. So I tried to go right around him then here he comes back. So then I go left NOPE he's going left now. So we danced like this for about 2-300 yards it seemed like. finally past him. got in to a little bit of a grove then started catching earlier waves. I don't even know what all colors I was seeing white caps green caps blue caps. I had trouble getting though all the mess. This was my first Ironman wave start event and I am not a fan. I like the mass start then I don't have to worry about catching the other groups. So I was really supprised with my 33:59.
What would you do differently?:

Start at the front of my wave. Theres not a lot you can do when you start catching the other waves just work though the best you can.
Transition 1
  • 03m 56s
Comments:

took my time through the sprinklers
What would you do differently?:

just speed up a little bit. I took my time walked most of it.
Bike
  • 2h 47m 29s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.06 mile/hr
Comments:

Cycling has never been my strong suit. I went out slow and easy waiting on the wind to pick up and it never really did. Got to the turn around at 1:19 and worried I might be to fast so slowed even more coming back. Seem like the wind was stronger coming back. (not usually the case in Galveston)I was 1:26 ish back and was hoping I didn't over do it on the bike but I felt good. Normally I don't bike at 20MPH. I love the smooth roads. I ride mostly chipseal here.
What would you do differently?:

I would probably pushed a little more on the bike. I could have pushed a little harder on the way back and would have been ok.

I really need to work on the bike I lost 53 spots on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 02m 39s
Comments:

same as first walked a lot of it
Run
  • 1h 48m 21s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was good for me. I started a little faster then I needed to but in the end it all worked out. Everyone was running fast with me and it was hard to make my self slow down. But I had to run my race and let those fast guys and gals go. In the end I caught most of them back. I am not a fan of the loops so I just tried to concentrate on my pace and what mile I was on and forget that I have to do this two more times. The energy was good from the crowd. The last lap I started looking for 35-39 calves to help push me to the end. I found a guy on an orange cap and he was running a good pace so I kept up with him the best I could. Then I caught my buddy somewhere around mile 11 and he was having a rough time he had two flats and was cramping. Walked and talked with him through the aid station then I was off to catch the guy in the orange hat but I never seen him again. All in all it was a good day for me.
What would you do differently?:

Not to much I had a good run.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around stretched a little and drank lots of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I performed well for my fitness. If I want to perform better I will have to train harder.

Event comments:

It was a good race. I will probably do it again. It didn't have enough porta potties around transition I didn't think. 2-3 in transition and 2-3 out of transition for 2800 people.

Thanks

you passed me on the bike at about mile 54-55 right before we turned off the seawall (remembered your # because it was close to mine).  Remember I was that guy you passed!

looks like I may see you at Marble Falls.

LOL nice!  I'll be at MF, but probably going to do the Oly instead of the Half.  I'm looking forward to the new course, should be much better than last year.
