Total Time = 1h 46m 2s
Overall Rank = 206/404
Age Group = 1st Timers
Age Group Rank = 41/145
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5. Packed up the rest of my stuff and we checked out of the hotel. Grabbed a bagel and headed for the race site. Got body-marked, argued with a mechanic to get air in my tires, set up transition, and watched the first waves go.
Event warmup:

No real warm up.
Swim
  • 15m 58s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim kinda sucked. There was a fairly strong current. When the first wave started it didn't look like they were moving at all, and I got a little worried, but I was able to swim against it. It wasn't pretty but I made it.
What would you do differently?:

Swim closer to the buoys
Transition 1
  • 02m 46s
Comments:

My wetsuit came off really easily! I didn't feel dizzy like I did after Lake T, so I was able to move fairly quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 54m 35s
  • 17 miles
  • 18.69 mile/hr
Comments:

As soon as I got on the bike I started picking people off, and I only got passed a couple times. My goal was to go hard but not too hard, and I am pleased with my results. I drank an entire bottle of diluted Gatorade and I'm glad I did because I needed it before the run!
What would you do differently?:

Try to stay aero the whole time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

I wasn't a huge fan of the transition racks because they weren't high enough off the ground and I nearly knocked the whole thingover trying to get my bike on and off. Other than that it was fine.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 31m 25s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

As usual, a lot of the people I passed on the bike passed me on the run. I reallly need to work on my running. I did ok, but I wish I'd done it in under 30 minutes. I walked through the water stations so I could have a moment to drink and get doused with water.
What would you do differently?:

Run the WHOLE run.
Post race
Warm down:

Got my finisher's medal and waited for Ashley to finish. Then the 4 of us drove into Philli for authentic cheese steaks.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sucking at swimming.

Event comments:

I was very impressed with this race. It was very organized, the race announcer got everyone psyched as we were waiting in the water, there were lots of volunteers, they had the road closed to traffic, and the overall vibe was positive and fun.

GOOD JOB! I was there too. What a fun race! Where did you get results? I don't see them posted yet online. We left before they posted them on paper.

Nice race, Polly!

Woo Hoo... CONGRATS!

I think you did really well, especially in that nasty current! Very nice bike split and good job in the Ts as well. And don't be so hard on yourself, you cut a good run. You should be proud of your results!

BTW:
You're diggin' that diluted Gatorade, aren't cha'?

Congrats Polly!!

Awesome race....like that bike time....picking people off is sweet! Swimming in a current sounds tough but you did it! Run time well it is the bane of many of us.....you are way faster than I was when I started.

Nice race all the way...MOP in your first "real" tri is amazingly great! Sounds like a fun race....

I can't wait to see how you do next time at Lake T!

Congrats!  Great race.   You did great in the swim especially given the current you had to go against.  No opportunity to practice for that in Lake T.  You threw down a great bike split.  Nice transitions.  Your run is nothing to be ashamed of.   Doesn't do you any good running the whole thing but not being able to drink what you need.   Better to walk the aid stations if it helps you with drinking.   Top 30% of first timers = awesome.

Polly -
Great job on yesterday's race. It was my first race, and I have to say I had a great time, even if my times totally SUCKED. Came in REALLY BOP, but can only improve from there, right?!?
That current in the river was a bit intimindating since I'm only used to swimming in a pool. LOVED having it push me on the way back in!!

My husband took LOTS of pictures during the race, so if you're interested, send me your bib # and email address and I'll see if he has any of you!
(this goes for anyone else who participated too!)

Fabulous job, Polly! I'd like to say that I saw you, but you were surely long gone by the time I got my bike. Wasn't the course gorgeous?
