Subject: weekly mileage for the run
My personal trainer always discouraged me from doing more than 15 miles/week running.

However, more often than not, others in training that I talk to are doing at least 20 miles/week.

Bearing in mind I am running mainly 5K distances.
What's a productive mileage where you can still make gains (speedwise) without exhausting yourself?

Thanks!
Amy

Amy:

Depends on what kind of running you are doing, if you are doign mainly 5k, you probably want to focus on speed work and that being the case you can probably get by on 20 miles a week (3 runs of about 6 miles or so). Just make sure you give yourself an easy day after a hard day. Once you get used to the work, your legs should recover within a day. The Runners World website has a lot of good information on training plans for the 5k distance ( as well as others if you want to go longer) http://www.runnersworld.com/home/0,,s6-0-0-0-0,00.html

Good Luck,
Chris
