Subject: Kona or the Masters

You are given the option of choosing one or the other:  A four-day all access pass to see the Masters with a follow free 18 hole round on Monday or a slot in Kona for the World Championship Ironman.  You can only choose one and will never be able to attend/participate in the other one during your lifetime.  What would you choose?

I'd have to choose the Masters, especially with the free round on Monday...that would truly be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

By the rules of your game, they both would be

Ditto.  Especially with the round at Augusta.

While I enjoy playing a round of golf now and again, watching it bores me to tears.  Kona no contest.

I am a really bad golf player so thats out. But, I'd trade Kona for a slot (including transportation costs for myself and bike) in Ironman Wisconsin.

I live in Florida but I was born a cheesehead.

Am I allowed to wear my tri-shorts at Augusta?  If you let me wear tri shorts and a green jacket, I'll go Augusta...if not, then it's Kona for me.

I've trained just about everyday for the last five years to maybe someday race in Kona.  I gave up golfing for this pursuit.  So unless you could also grant me Lindsay Vaughn as my caddie it'd have to be Kona.

If, by an act of God, I was a scratch golfer, and 3 of my best friends also suddenly became scratch golfers...and we could all play on Monday...I'd pick the Masters.

Given that the OP only said I could go, and that I'd have to hack my way through tournament conditions (read...I'd shoot the worst round of my life), I think I'll pass and take Kona.

Q. I was born and raised just south of Madison. I've ridden on most of those roads.. Doing that race would be pure nostalgia.

Okay, well in real life, playing at Augusta really IS a once in a lifetime opportunity, so no contest there!

My husband has actually played Augusta, and when he came home he told me his life was now complete. To this day it is probably the best thing that has ever happened to him (yeah, I know - clearly the kids and I mean nothing)

The only times I've ever golfed there were windmills involved.

I'd love to go back to Hawaii and go see where I used to live and ride along the Queen K.

Haven't been to the big island since 1978 but I lived on Oahu for a couple years in the '80s. I'd find a way to swing around there to visit as well.

I went to Hilo High 1978...

LOVED the Big Island! It would have to be a TWO week vacation!!! But I may never return...

Having a slot in the race does not mean you must even start the race, just that you can.

I'm with you. Screw around on the big island for a week or so, tool around on the course other than race day and check out the black sands beach!

I would take Kona and the slot.  I may not finish the race, but would love to make an attempt at it.  I think the Master's would be pretty good deal, if I was a scratch golfer and loved the game.  I play twice a year for fund raisers, and actually didn't make it last year, but paid for someone else to go in my place.

Kona most definitely.

No doubt the Masters.  With Kona, you still have a chance of going (via lottery or qualification).  Maybe not a great chance, but definitely very doable.  With the Master's, the normal Joe on the Street has ZERO chance of playing the course, so it's a no-brainer decision (unless you have no interest in golf).
