Total Time = 1h 05m 30s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 24/30
Pre-race routine:

coffee, half bagel with cream cheese, sips of gatorade, sips of water. met up with friends and drove to race site together.

i saw Patty and Mary from BT. i looked for kathyg, but coudln't find her. I saw May from BT, but didn't catch up with her until she caught up (and passed me) on the race course. Denise from BT, was sick and couldn't make it. I hope you're feeling better!!

Used the porta-potty, which was impressively clean.

Did some stretching, chit-chatted with Danskin gang, some from last year, saw Matt who is on the BTT team and was working the race. Put an iron girl tattoo on.
Run
  • 1h 05m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

There was a water station every mile, nicely staffed, great volunteers. The miles were marked with balloon numbers.
What would you do differently?:

I knew i had to do a steady slow pace as i hadn't been training. So really, i have no complaints how i handled my race. I wish i had downloaded songs on my mp3 player. I was only able to get one station in, and it was classical. As much as it was relaxing, i think i would have preferred some rock-n-roll.
Post race
Warm down:

water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not enough base training, and some amount of unwillingness to push hard.

Event comments:

The race was well organized, great people, well staffed, plenty to eat, easy parking, great wick-away shirts in the goodie bag, finishing medals, lots of raffle prizes. I bet this race gets as big as the Tufts. The only thing I hope they correct in their future races is the starting line timing. They did NOT have a race mat at the start. We lined up backwards according to our pace. So to have one clock time for all, is no where near accurate. I had my chrono watch on luckily, so i knew my time.

Nikki, I looked for you but didn't see you!

glad to hear you had a good race.

next year I want separate starts for the 5 and 10K - that was a mob scene.

hey Monica - yeah!!..i couldn't find a couple of folks there. The start was rough, i agree. They didn't have the timing mat at the start, which is appreciated for someone like myself that seeds accordingly ... WAY BACK!!

Great race Nikki!

Still you allude me ...ever time we race together, we never find each other!!

Congrats on awesome time with little training..you rock!

The over the top women stuff was so so....but I agree they should have a start line time plus start the 5K and 10K at different times so it isn't so congested.

Emily had a great time and it was fun to do as a mother-daughter team.

Good to see you there too! And you did an excellent job keeping up the pace, even without your music. :-)

I think you're right - if they keep doing this race, it could get very big. The website says there were 1400 finishers (okay, "1400 women became Iron Girls", bleah) - The Tufts 10K at its biggest was around 6500. So, a little ways to go, but it could happen! I wonder what kind of growth they are seeing in the locations where they've done races before?

Hey there,
I'm a college student in Minneapolis and we have a duathlon there that started last year. I was a big event so much so that they changed race locations for this year. I am not sure how many people are racing but I volunteered last year (I wasn't in good enough shape to compete) and it was great!

Congrats to you all!
