Recently sold my truck for a more fuel efficient car. Need ideas for a bike rack, preferably one extending from the trunk. Nothing fancy, it's just a bike..right? Thanks!

I got it because it was red and everyone knows red is faster.  The bottle opener was just a bonus. ;-)

It is just a bike but it might have a super nice paint job, like mine.  I wanted one that did not clamp onto the bike frame.  I got a Thule 917XTR-T2. It clamps to the wheels.  It also as a cable lock that may give you some slight peace of mind while you eat lunch inside someplace with the bike on the rack.  It is the fastest-loading, most secure rack that I have used.

A couple of other manufacturers have models that clamp the same way, like Saris CycleOn and Yakima Holdup .

If your car does have a receiver, Thule makes a nice 4 bike rack that locks the rack and bikes. There are other racks that do not lock for "convenience". This makes it easier to add and remove, it also makes it easier for thieves to remove. Having a receiver rack or one that mounts to hatch/trunk has one draw back, they act like a parachute on your car. Gas mileage will drop. Alternative is roof racks. Issues are lifting bike to rack and these racks are more permanent. But they, like your bike, are more "earo" than behind the bike.

Regardless, try YOUR bike on the rack you are thinking of buying. Racks look like they fit all bikes, but they don't. Sometimes a 4 bike rack is better than 2 bike to give two bikes more clearance.
