Pre-race routine:

Didn't sleep the night before. I just couldn't fall asleep!! I finally managed to fall asleep around 6 and had to get up at 7 for the race. Not idea, but that's the way it worked.

Got up, got changed, made espresso and ate a honey stinger waffle. Made *another* double shot of espresso to take with me.

Think Nespresso will sponsor me? Not sure how I'd make it through am races without them!
Event warmup:

Walked about 15 minutes from car to race start. Took some pre-race photos, found the porta-potty, and stood in line trying to stay warm.

Comments:

Started off in the earliest wave, but they split each giant wave into smaller ones. I was the 4th or 5th back, so there were a lot of people on the course in front of me. With all the kids and people who were just going to walk, I knew I wasn't going to set a PR. Tried to position myself such that I could run without causing problems for other people.

Ran pretty much the whole thing. Had to stop at one point to let cars through the road (runners crossed it) and a few bottlenecks at color stations and the water stop. It was cold in the morning, so getting sprayed with cold water and foam at the start was not ideal. My hands were pretty cold for the first 15 minutes.

It's definitely entertaining to see everyone get pelted with color. Most of it is in cornstarch, so you can see giant clouds of color as you get closer. It's a pretty neat effect. I'm not as huge of a fan of the color in the water mostly just because it was a bit cold today.

There were a lot of kids! They were having so much fun. It was great to watch how excited they were about the whole thing. Hopefully that enjoyment sticks with them and they keep running. :)
What would you do differently?:

Not much. It's a crowded run (not even really a race since they don't chip time it), and is supposed to be a fun event. I did pretty well given how sore I've been and how tired I was.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to the color bomb station to get pelted with more color. Took post race photos. Wandered around to try to find my car. After 15 minutes, I realized I was on the wrong street, so I walked another 10 minutes to get to the right spot.

Event comments:

More of a fun run than a race. Kids seem to love it!

Before 'n' after. Priceless!

Well done on tired legs and a tired Wondermoose. I'll be lucky if I get an hour in before tomorrow as well!

P.S. I once sat next to Color Me Badd in church.

I've always wanted to celebrate Holi and these events always remind me of that. Very cool! I love the pics (per usual) not too shabby a race on an hour of sleep!

One hour of sleep and a double espresso to go.  Hmmm, not ideal racing conditions other than cool weather (which would be nice for a non pelt with cold water day)....Love it!

Looks like a good run and lots of fun!

now go get a nap Tongue out

What I've wondered is do people have trouble trying to breathe during the time they are getting bombarded? That concerned me.Anyhow, nice job!

Not really. It's cornstarch. I didn't notice any issues.  The volunteers were good about throwing it lower so it didn't get too in your face. The recommended bandanas for younger ones.

Great job Jen, it looks like you had a fun time. Not all "races" are races, are they? Some are just plain fun. I hope you got some sleep.

Ha, you are a tough one for sure, with one hour of sleep then pounding espresso to get you through the race!   Looks and sounds like a lot of fun, and it was a smart idea to take a before and after photo.

Nice job - sounds like fun...except I could see the traffic trying to get into Innsbrook from near my house and there's no way I'd want to get hung up in that mess!

But way to go on one hour sleep!
