Total Time = 4h 39m 16s
Overall Rank = 33/205
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/20
Pre-race routine:

Prior to leaving the hotel, my pre-race routine was pretty normal...
Once at the race site everything was a little off due to the driving rain and colder conditions than I'm use to.
Event warmup:

No warm-up due to the weather
Swim
  • 34m 27s
  • 1931 meters
  • 01m 47s / 100 meters
Comments:

Very comfortable swim. The wave starts were 3 minutes apart and the waves were not too crowded. Even with a 2-loop course, there was still plenty of space in the swim.
What would you do differently?:

I could have drafted more in this race.
Transition 1
  • 02m 20s
Bike
  • 2h 33m 3s
  • 56 miles
  • 21.95 mile/hr
Comments:

I definitely played conservative in several of the turns due to the wet conditions. There were several people who fell on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

A little slower than my normal T2 pace as I left my shoes and hat in a bag so they weren't soaking wet by the time I made it off the bike.
Run
  • 1h 28m 14s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 06m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm sure I negative split, however, I don't know my splits, because for the first time ever in a race...I forgot my watch!
What would you do differently?:

Don't forget to bring my watch. I may have run harder had I known my time on the course.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of walking around the race site.
After the race I took a nap and then went out in Charleston to celebrate with friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing...This was a new personal record behind Ironman Augusta which has a down river swim. My bike and run times were as predicted/expected. Based on previous performances; I probably could have pushed a little harder in the run, but I did run a negative split, so I have nothing to complain about.

Event comments:

Try Charleston and Setup Events put on a great race. The post race food and awards were great! I look forward to racing with them again!

This year was their first year for a two transition race. The organizers did a great job communicating logistics and providing transportation between the transition areas for both athletes and spectators.

Luckily the rain stopped about 15 minutes before the swim start!
Suit: Sleeveless Wetsuit
Course: 2 lap triangular swim. This was a good swim time for me at this distance. My navigation was a little off in the first lap, but the course was well marked.

Course: 2 loop flat course on a mix of pavement and concrete. Aid stations were every mile or so. Due to all the overnight and morning rain there were several sections of the course underwater. About 50 yards long and 3 inches deep! The giant puddles made the run course interesting. Some people (like me) charged through the water, while others tried to avoid all the water even if it meant running into on coming race traffic or walking through the muddy grass on the sides of the path.
