I will be in Denver in May and I am looking for local triathletes to be my training partners / tour guides and show me their favorite cycling routes and runs while I am there.

This is part of a road trip I am doing.  All details are available in my Road Trip Thread.

Hope you Coloradans can come through for me.

P.S.  - I lived in Colorado for 12 years and know the Denver area well, but I was not a triathlete then.  I can meet you anywhere from Denver to Boulder - Golden to Brighton and as far north as Thornton.

Have fun - hope you find a good "tour guide"

by the 18th I shouldn't be venturing too far away from home (or my pregnant wife - she has fast labors)

Thanks, and congrats on the pregnancy.

Still looking for tour guides / training partners.  I'm thinking there are some very nice rides around Golden and / or Boulder.  I'm looking to do a 60 mile ride on 5/18.

Come one Colorado Triathletes...!

I'm no where near fast enough, nor am I in shape enough for 60, BUT I recommend Boulder.  If you start at Tom Watson Park and do the new IM 70.3 loop, it's a beautiful ride: http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/events/ironman-70.3/boulder/course.aspx#axzz2S3JNSmz3

Or, bike from same place, turn left on Left Hand Canyon and go up to Jamestown (good climbing) and then follow part of the above map.

Tom Watson park is a great place for starting and finishing b/c there are bathrooms, showers and water fountains!

Thank you for the tips.  If I don't get anyone to step up - I will definitely ride this route.

Anyone out there planning a long ride (or a swim) on Saturday morning?  I'm still looking for someone in the Denver Area.

Saturday I have family commitments so can't help you out there.  Friday I will be riding though...southeast of Denver (Parker) but I could meet up somewhere if you can ride then.

I'm in Boulder -- my Masters group swims 8-9:30 on Sat AM.  I think I have a free guest pass for my pool if you'd like to use it.  I'll be riding up to Ward probably via Lee Hill/Left Hand Canyon on Sun AM.  PM me if you're interested.

Hi! This Saturday morning I'll be swimming at the Chatfield Gravel Pond. I can't do huge distances yet, but you're welcome to join me.

On the south side, I'm planning to ride Deer Creek Canyon/High Grade on Saturday, mid-morning.  Might also swim at the gravel pond, need to get in some open water before KS!

Thank you very much for the invite / offer.  I am looking to do my swim pretty early, followed immediately by the bike ride as Saturday is the day of my friends wedding (the reason for my trip).

Wish I was staying longer - would definitely love to swim with your masters group in Boulder.

Thanks again.

@Colomingle - What time are you planning on swimming?  I'm down for an OWS.

@StMass - What time are you planning on riding, and where would I meet up with you?

See where I'm going with this?  One big Group swim & Ride...

Would love to do the OWS - then ride.  Is Deer Creek Canyon close to the Gravel Pond?  I can meet early for the OWS.. I'm thinking 7:00 a.m. ish if that's not too early for everyone.

@ Exige - not my ride to invite others to, and not sure what your riding level is - but would be awesome if we could all ride.  If my OWS then Bike Brick doesn't come to fruition, what time are you planning on riding?

TO EVERYONE - FWIW - I live in a very hilly area, I usually average between 16 - 17 mph on the bike (including obeying traffic laws.)  Not the fastest, not the slowest.  I am fast on the downhills, and a mediocre climber.  I am a high level swimmer - and in an OWS can easily average 1:35 per 100, but don't mind slowing down.  If anyone has any questions, I'm happy to answer and help with swimming..

Thanks all for volunteering.  Looking forward to Saturday.

Chad,

Riding Deer Creek form the Gravel pond is pretty popular, the pond is more or less across the road from the parking area for the ride.  I have a conflict now with the swim times for the pond, but will be rolling through Wads & Deer Creek around 10:30 or so (I ride from home).  Deer Creek is not so much hilly as Hill, the High Grade route tops out around 8500 ft...from the pond I think its ~2800 vertical, give or take. If the timing works, we can meet up at the gate across from the parking area, just let me know.

From Wadsworth it's 60-90 minutes (~14-15 miles) going up depending on the rider. There's a nice rest area w/a port-pottie and stocked coolers at the top, donation funded. I won't be able to get out there until 11, but there will be plenty of riders going up in the morning. Be vigilant coming back down, especially on the guardrail sections. Also be mindful of road etiquette, some of the locals are sensitive.

Enjoy the ride!

gravel pond swim is a no go.. there's a sign that says you have to have a special permit, or be part of a group with a permit or be part of a group with a permit, and you can only swim Monday Wednesday Friday, from 430 to 7 p.m.... off to ride Deer Creek Canyon, hope I see you out there...
