Subject: Tri bike size help
This is my 3rd season doing sprint tris with a road bike and clip on aero bars. I do 4-5 tris a year and am looking to make that step up to a real tri bike. I am 6'0, 190 lbs, normal to longer torso, 32" inseam and 20" from knee to foot. Unfortunately I do not have a LBS to shop around, so I am on my own getting as much info I can in making a good decision. Any make and size suggestions? I am eyeing a cannondale slice, felt, or specialized transition in a 56. Am I on the right track or should I be looking at larger/smaller? Thanks for any insight you can contribute

Best advice I can give you is to invest in a retul bike fit. This will determine the best tri bike suited to your exact dimensions. Takes the guess work out of finding something and cannabilizing it to fit your specific requirements. Not everyone fits into a small, medium or large frame.

not sure we can help here- everyone is so different. But if your bike inseam is really 32" and you are 6'- then you have a very long torso and short legs for your size- and the transition wouldn't be for you.  You would need a longer/lower bike.  (QR, Cervelo, Felt...)

However -my guess is that your inseam isn't correct.  Are you telling us your pants leg length?  Bike Inseam gets measured from the floor to your sit bones (pushing up pretty hard into the sit bone to measure it), and is typically longer than how you buy your pants.

Thanks for the insight. Really appreciate it. I will have to measure again but I'm pretty sure inside seam from floor to sit bone was 32". Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Sure enough you are right. Inseam is more like 34-35 when I go all they way up to sit bone.

Those are all very different fits... Height is a VERY poor indicator of bike fit, and inseam isn't very helpful either...

You're best bet would be to find anywhere within driving distance to get a bike fit and then shop for a bike.... There's nothing worse than a poor bike fit... it'll make if uncomfortable and unstable... and very likely it could make you SLOWER than you are on a well fitting road bike.

Go to your local bike shop and they should get you on the right size. get a fitting and TEST all models.
