On rainy days, LT tests, or isolated leg workouts, pulling out the trainer is essential in maintaining scheduled workouts. I have been told that there is no real evidence that trainers effect your bike. Any opinions on whether or not indoor trainers do damage bikes? Anyone have any experience with your bike being damaged due to an indoor trainer?

The only thing I have heard is that mag rollers are bad for your wheels... The Resitance wears out the tires. So don't train indoor with your Zipps!

in short.... no.  Any trainer will still wear your tires like riding the road will.  The key is to set the tension right and keep in mind the tire and roller will expand once it's warmed up.  So having it slightly loose to start with is a must

i've asked the same question... i got a NO... i asked the head guy at Computrainer and he said no.. where you are hooking the bike up to the trainer is a very strong part of the bike so it will be ok...

Just be sure to set the tire the correct distance from the roller. I didn't follow instructions properly the first time and ended up with a lovely plume of rubber particles on the carpet and coating the backstays. After consulting my trainer's owner's manual I've had no further problems -- although as a guy I shouldn't admit I read the manual, I suppose...
