Subject: New Jersey State Tri - Wetsuit Question

I went ahead and signed up for the Olympic length course for Sunday 7/21.

The website's FAQ does not mention whether the swim is wetsuit legal or not...does anyone know?  Does it depend on the water temp the day of the event?

Temp usually ranges in the 80s. It's usually not wetsuit legal water temps.  Last year it was but it hasn't been in the past few years.

Last year was wetsuit legal, but only because of the heavy rains the day before the event.  If I remember correctly, it was wet suit legal by .3 degrees or something close to that.

I had done it six years running up until last year and I don't think it was ever wetsuit legal. Always too dern hot, which is why, incidentally, that I haven't done it the last couple of years.

So it's two weeks to go. Weather has been very warm and so I fully expect it to not be wetsuit legal.

Can anyone confirm or know current water temperature?

Back down to 75 after all that rain stirred up some cooler water. Afraid with all the crazy heat the rest of the week will be up quite a bit probably into the low 80's

86 today according to the email we got today. Looking at the rest of the week - doesn't look like it will be going down.

the water temp was 90 today for the sprint so good luck. It was like swimming in mud and I felt really overheated in the water.

So I survived. It was warm today but not too bad. I hope everyone else enjoyed the event as much as I did!

I blew out two tires on my car on the way to the race. Had to DNS; not happy!

What was the water temp on Sunday?

Sorry you missed it. It was a blast. I don't know official water temp but it was a little cooler once we got out there. Very comfortable and I did not miss the wetsuit. My swim was slow, 34:27, but I enjoyed it. I think I could have gotten closer to 30 minutes but it was crowded and that slowed me down.

I just realized that the finisher's medal is also a bottle opener.

Bonus!
