Comments: Start was slow with 1049 runners on the road. Felt pretty good and just tried to run at a level I thought I could maintain. Talked to a guy from Wisconsin who ran the Boston Marathon back in 1976. Talked to a guy who was running his 39th consecutive Avenue of the Giants 1/2 marathon. At mile 4 the first marathoner passed me. By mile 5 only two other marathoners had gone by. Took my first gel at mile 5. Second gel at mile 10. Energy felt good throughout. Knees (especially the left) started to ache at 8 to 9 miles. What would you do differently?: Don't get sick so I can train the distance. Post race
Warm down: walked (staggered) around for 20 minutes or so. Ate some banana and watermelon wile drinking water. Listened to awards presentation while sitting on the ground and stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough training for this distance. I had never run more than 10 miles before this race and my knees paid for it. Event comments: A very fun event for my first half marathon. I would definitely do this event again. Show up early (7 am) for parking. Last updated: 2013-05-05 12:00 AM
