Out running or enjoying a fine glass of red...
Subject: Private tri-specific swim lessons in Richmond
I think I'm giving up the ghost and opting for private swim lessons...masters is only getting me so far.

The options I've found in Richmond include:

Peluso
Endorphin
YMCA (Karen Holloway)

I've also seen that Maramarc does/did total immersion training and that CVE runs finding freestyle (although they only seem to have online courses right now - I want a coach in the water with me).

Are there any options I'm missing? Any personal experience with any of these for private swim coaching?

Does your university offer private lessons or private coaching?  Might be cheaper than some of the other options.  I don't know too much about the different groups, but the group class I took at Endorphin was totally worth it.

I would think Peluso or Endorphin would be awesome, but yeah...Jen's suggestion for an individual class at the school gym would be cheaper and a good possibility.  I also saw GARP post that their new sessions are opening up, they may have something for you aside from Jay Peluso's program.

Peluso was a great option for me.  I signed up for the private lessons and then the Masters Program and knocked a ton of time off my swim.  They offer a lot of great advice during the Masters Program, so I'd definitely recommend them.

Another benefit of Peluso's program is that he has regular open-water swimming workouts with strategy and technique instruction, so if you want to improve your swimming for both pool and open-water triathlons, there is really no comparable option in the area.  Swimming is my strongest discipline, and I heartily endorse Peluso Open Water.

I train online with Endorphin, so cannot vouch for their team swim sessions. If you are looking for a complete three-sport coaching solution, you can't do much better. I have been crushing PR's like bugs since joining EF.

If you are looking for only swim coaching, Peluso will be a very good way to go. I don't know much about their private coaching, but that they do group swims in conjunction with RTC, which you can drop in on. Jay is a great guy, and a terrific RD.

If I am remembering correctly, RTC (Richmond Tri Club) used to have swim clinics and periodically they would have special clinics hosted by various coaches and other smart people.  Have no idea if they still do that or when, but would think that attending one of those would give some good leads on a coach.  (of course presuming that by the amount of dust on your original post you are still asking the question)
