Completely unscientific research on my part out of professional curiosity.

Are you for intervention?

If so, in what manner and to what end?

If not, why not, and do you have a threshold that would change your answer?

Discuss.

They don't have oil.  No need to intervene.

The first bit of news I heard about chemical weapons being involved got me thinking maybe we should get involved.  Then, I heard it was possibly the rebels using the chemical weapons...that made me think we shouldn't be helping the rebels.  Then I heard some of the rebels were fundamentalists...haven't we been down that road before?

Overall, I think we've done the right thing avoiding this mess.  U.S. boots on the ground would be a big mistake in my opinion...and funding fundamentalist groups would be an even bigger mistake.

There is no easy answer, period.

I am all for not getting involved in anything. The US, in my mind, does not need to be the world police. That is what international organizations like NATO are for. Let them deal with it and if they deploy, our NATO contingent can be part of it, but we do not need to go in there solo just because. I feel the same way about all of the current conflicts we are in.

Hate to say it, but I agree with Obama's current approach... Let Israel sort it out...

Someone on one of the Sunday shows made a good point that we've been so focused on 4% of the global landmass (the Middle East). What if we stopped freaking out every time they did something.

We can't completely pull away. We need the Human Intel piece to stay informed of any threats, but maybe we pull back on picking sides.

What asset are we protecting?

What is the objective?

What is the exit strategy?

Unclear?  Stay out of this mess.

Yup, I agree completely.  Just because there's a dictator in place doesn't necessarily mean the guys replacing him are going to be any better.  Ask Egypt how that worked out.

My only steps in this conflict would be to continue supporting Israel with military arms and supplies because they're an ally.

I'm glad to see John Kerry trying to sway Russia to join the international consensus and not support the current regime.

Kerry's tried and failed that for a few months now. The Russians aren't likely to support any action that eliminates a strong ally on the Mediterranean coast.

STAY OUT!!  Supply no one with weapons that can be used against us or our allies after the conflict, when they decide to turn on us (which seems to always happen on that part of the globe).

The civil wars we have intervened in the past have turned out poorly for us. I say we let them settle it.  All it will bring is more resentment to the US.

Tell Obama to shut up. He keeps drawing redlines and Assad just keeps stepping over them.

Right on Gomes!  Axl nailed it.

"My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of god and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars...

Look at the shoes you're filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more...

My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of god or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars...

I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Aint that fresh...

I don't need your civil war
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no uh-oh-uh, no uh-oh, uh no
I don't need one more war

I don't need one more war
No, no, no, no uh-oh-uh, no uh-oh, uh no
Whaz so civil 'bout war anyway?"
